Mugshot of suspected CEO killer sparks swooning, scary sign of our warped society

Since the killing of the UnitedHealthcare CEO, people have been defending the alleged murderer online. This only intensified when a person of interest was taken into custody at a Pennsylvania McDonald’s.

Hybristophiliacs, otherwise known as people with an attraction to criminals, are not a new occurrence. However, the context for the latest outpouring of love and support of a suspected killer may have more political undertones than romantic ones.

Luigi Mangione was arrested under the suspicion of killing Brian Thompson, an act that was quickly celebrated by those who hate corporations, CEOs, and health insurance companies. His “mugshot” has taken social media by storm and created an army of fans who think he is too “sexy” for jail.

Mangione has not officially been charged with the crime, and it’s unclear if he will be released after questioning. Given that it’s unknown whether he is even associated with the crime, it’s a little strange that people are coming out to defend him so staunchly.
