Musk mocks misspelled sign at Somali-run Minneapolis daycare center: ‘Zoolander irl’

Tesla/SpaceX CEO Elon Musk is all over the rampant swindling of taxpayers involving Minnesota’s Somali population and shady politicians, and he took to X to dole out mockery over a viral video alleging fraud at a Minneapolis daycare center.

The video by independent journalist Nick Shirley blew up on social media over the weekend, adding more fuel to the fire for Republicans seeking to hold Minnesota’s Democratic Governor Tim Walz accountable for the “industrial-scale fraud” that has gone on under his nose.

In one of the several daycare centers visited by Shirley and his team, a sign outside reads “Quality Learing Center,” a misspelled message that isn’t exactly a ringing endorsement for the educational criteria offered to the 99 children who are supposedly served by the business, if they even exist.

“For kids who can’t read good,” wrote the former Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) boss in a Sunday post to X, mocking the sloppy signage.

When Shirley arrived, the “Quality Learing Center” did not appear to have any children despite his visit taking place midday on a weekday. The YouTube journalist said that the seemingly inactive daycare center received $1.9 million from the government in 2025 alone.

“There’s no one here right now, it’s midday on a weekday and if you were to try to go inside it’s completely closed and the windows are all blacked out,” he said in a video posted to X last week. “No one’s working, midday, children should be in here and this place is licensed for 99 children.”

“They literally spelled the word wrong on their sign. This is open and blatant fraud taking place here inside of Minnesota,” Shirley added. “The government is complicit with this and this is just one of the hundreds of child daycare centers here inside of Minneapolis being run by the Somali population.”

Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN), the third-ranking Republican in the House of Representatives, demanded answers from Walz over the seemingly bogus daycare center.

“4 million dollars of hard earned tax dollars going to and an education center that can’t even spell learning correctly. Care to explain this one, @tim_walz?” Walz wrote in a Friday post to X, sharing Shirley’s video.

The “Quality Learing Center” has a history of violations, which were highlighted in a report from Minneapolis ABC affiliate KSTP earlier this year, racking up “95 violations between 2019 and 2023.”

Musk was on fire with several other posts about the Somali-run daycare center with no kids.

In a weekend appearance on Fox News, Shirley said that the Minnesota fraud was “so obvious” that a “kindergartner could figure out that there is fraud going on” and suggested that mainstream reporters were too scared of being labeled racists and Islamophobes to do their jobs.

“What’s happening in Minnesota is a microcosm of the immigration fraud in our system. Politicians like it because they get power. Welfare cheats like it because they get rich. But it’s a zero sum game, and they’re stealing both money and political power from Minnesotans,” Vice President JD Vance wrote in a post to X on Saturday, highlighting the systemic fraud that has taken place while Walz has been in office.
