A new year signaled a new phase of the soured relationship between President Donald Trump and Elon Musk.
The billionaire Tesla founder posted a photo of himself enjoying a “lovely dinner” at the president’s Florida estate, renewing speculation on social media on whether their previous friendship had been repaired after a public falling out last year.
“Had a lovely dinner last night with @POTUS and @FLOTUS,” Musk wrote Sunday in a post on X.

The former head of Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) added, “2026 is going to be amazing!”
The photo, which showed Musk seated at a round table exclusively with the president and First Lady Melania Trump, was reportedly taken on Saturday evening at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort, according to Fox News.

Musk departed the administration in May 2024 and went on to publicly criticize government spending proposals and the Trump-backed “Big Beautiful Bill.”
“I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore,” he expressed at the time in an X post. “This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.”
The jabs between the two continued for a time, with Musk inferring that Trump would not have won the 2024 election if it were not for his help, and the president remarking that “Elon and I had a great relationship. I don’t know if we will anymore.”
But the men were seen together in September, behaving amicably after a handshake at Charlie Kirk’s memorial service in Glendale, Arizona. And, in November, Musk was spotted at a dinner at the White House when Trump hosted Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in November.
“I would like to thank President Trump for all he has done for America and the world,” Musk wrote in a post on X in November.
Asked about his relationship with Musk last month, the president remarked, “Well, I really don’t know. I mean, I like Elon a lot.”

“He really helped during the elections with his endorsement. I think we get along well,” he added.
Musk’s photo from Mar-a-Lago over the weekend sparked plenty of reactions on X.
