‘My people didn’t get none!’ Whoopi irks Sunny when she brags how ‘her people’ got what they’re ‘owed’ in reparations

The co-hosts of “The View” got into a slightly rowdy back-and-forth exchange Thursday while discussing reparations.

Evidently, co-host Whoopi Goldberg’s family already got their reparations, but co-host Sunny Hostin’s family didn’t.

Watch, and you’ll understand:

A viral clip of the encounter begins with co-host Goldberg stunningly saying she already got her reparations.

“We have American reparations. It started with 20 acres and a mule,” she says.

“They never got it,” fellow co-host Joy Behar, a white woman, then interjects.

“No, we did get it!” Goldberg responds.

Fellow co-host Sunny Hostin then cuts in to say she didn’t get anything.

“Ya’ll got 40 acres and a mule? My people didn’t get none!” she says.

Goldberg responds by claiming Hostin’s family didn’t fight hard for their piece of the pie, prompting the co-host to don a frustrated frown:

“Well, you didn’t do what my people did. Well, maybe that’s because your people didn’t come and sit on the front and say, ‘We’re not moving until you give us what we’re owed,'” Goldberg says.

“But they weren’t really looking for you. But they were looking for my folks, and my folks got it. And that’s because that’s what was promised,” she adds.

The discussion concludes with Goldberg then attacking the vast majority of Americans who oppose paying out reparations.

“We paid reparations to many different groups in this country, and the idea that you would want us to pretend that we don’t owe some folks something is ridiculous,” she said.

She clearly believes all living black people are owed reparations for the suffering endured by their enslaved ancestors centuries ago.

But as previously reported, a University of Massachusetts Amherst/WCVB poll conducted last year found that two-thirds of Americans oppose cash reparations.

“Four hundred years since Africans were forcibly brought to the shores of America, 245 years since the 3/5th Compromise and 156 years since freed African Americans were promised 40 acres and a mule, a majority of Americans express an unwillingness to pay the descendants of slaves for the nation’s original sin,” the director of the poll, Tatishe Nteta, angrily said at the time.

This fact hasn’t stopped some states from trying to manifest reparations into existence via legislation. In California, for example, two months ago a reparations task force convened by Gov. Gavin Newsom concluded that Californians who are the descendants of slaves are owed at least $223,200 in reparations each, or $569 billion total.

Those Californians who’d be eligible for the reparations “would be descendants of enslaved African Americans or of a ‘free Black person living in the United States prior to the end of the 19th century,’” The New York Times reported at the time, quoting the task force.

According to the Times, the $569 billion estimate would cover the reparations allegedly owed for housing discrimination that occurred between 1933 and 1977. That said, the $223,200 per person figure would be a maximum limit, not the actual amount received by each black individual.

“In reality, that number would be minimized when you take into account the fact that the task force decided in March that the community of eligibility would be lineage based rather than race-based,” the task force’s chair, entertainment lawyer Kamilah Moore, explained in an interview.

“When you really look at who was really impacted by housing discrimination during that particular time period it most likely won’t be all black folks,” she added.

That’s still a lot of money, ergo why so many Americans oppose reparations. Particularly under this administration, when the economy is in tatters, inflation is persistently high, and gas prices refuse to decline.

Indeed, according to a CNBC report from 2020, nationwide reparations could ultimately cost somewhere between $10 trillion and $12 trillion.

That’s trillions that would be added onto the already exorbitant $31 trillion debt that the United States boasts. In other words, it’s trillions that the already debt-burdened American people simply cannot afford …
