Terrorist threats of Biden’s border crisis moved one northern governor to take national security into his own hands after there were “No additional efforts out of the federal government.”
While alerts have been especially high since Hamas terrorists infiltrated Israel from the Gaza Strip, brutally kidnapping, raping and murdering indiscriminately, domestic national security has remained a paramount concern throughout President Joe Biden’s administration.
However, the porous southern border hasn’t been the only unaddressed problem, leading New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R) to launch his own Northern Border Alliance Task Force to combat the issue.
Thursday, alongside his Attorney General John Formella and New Hampshire Department of Safety Commissioner Robert Quinn, the Granite State governor committed over $1.4 million to coordinate with “State Police, Forest Rangers, and Fish and Game Department, as well as to county and local law enforcement agencies to fund patrols within 25 air miles from the Canadian border.
“Encounters with individuals on the terrorist watch list at the ports of entry on the northern border have doubled since 2017,” he expressed during the press conference as he called out the refusal to respond by the federal government.
The Federal Govt refuses to take action on our Northern Border. They cut funding, limited resources, and have thrown their hands up. Without adequate federal support, the state is stepping up. He warned that “there’s national security implications to securing the northern border that are becoming more and more obvious every day,” as government data showed that there had been over 7,600 encounters for the fiscal year through the end of July. By comparison, all of FY ’22 had seen 2,238 encounters and there were only 916 in FY ’21.
Of greater concern than the overall numbers, a pittance compared to the flood at the southern border, was the fact that according to the governor’s release, “85% of all land border encounters with individuals on the terrorist watchlist occurred on the northern border — while only 15% on the southern border.”
“We need to provide an all-hands-on-deck approach,” asserted Sununu after demanding “more targeted resources.”
The grant for the task force would primarily fund a roughly tenfold increase in patrol hours from the current level of around 55 hours per month to a total of 10,000 hours over a span of 18 months.
“We asked the federal government for help. We’ve been denied,” asserted the governor who described a promise from Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to provide whatever was needed save for an agreement. “There’s nothing that’s come from the federal government. No additional efforts out of the federal government.”
Well before Sununu had taken matters into his own hands, it had been reported that the northern border had experienced a nearly 850% surge in illegal alien encounters during the winter, particularly in the Swanton Sector that encompasses the border of eastern New York, Vermont and New Hampshire.
Border Patrol Sector Chief Robert N. Garcia had said at the time, “Illegal crossing of the Canada/U.S. border in sub-freezing temps continued last week, as #BorderPatrol Agents apprehended 115 subjects from 12 countries–mostly Mexican nationals. Unfortunately, perilous weather has done nothing to deter this traffic.”

Reacting to the announcement, New Hampshire Sen. Jeanne Shaheen’s (D) press secretary Ty McEachern chided Sununu when speaking with IndepthNH.org and claimed, “Time and time again, the Governor has neglected to fully utilize the money our delegation has provided New Hampshire.”
Meanwhile, he touted the senator’s advocacy for “enhanced northern border security dating back to her time as Governor,” and her stated support for increased Border Patrol funding.
Still, others like activist political director Sebastian Fuentes of Rights & Democracy criticized concern over the border to the New Hampshire Bulletin as a “manufactured crisis.”
In his own response to those claims, Sununu said, “I laugh at anyone who tries to criticize us when we’re the only ones actually doing anything and taking the issue seriously.”
