Nationalism is evil unless it’s Ilhan Omar joyously dancing on Somali Independence Day

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) joined in the revelry during Somali Independence Day, cutting a rug onstage during a jubilant celebration in Minneapolis over the weekend.

The “Squad” member got in on the fun when she joined performers onstage and shook her booty to the tribal beat of the music before a cheering crowd that turned out for the festivities in a city that some have taken to calling Little Mogadishu for its large population of refugees from the East African hellhole.

It was a perfect example of leftist hypocrisy about nationalism, which is constantly depicted as being evil when it comes to America. Yet, the Somalia-born congresswoman had no problem with engaging in a public display of pride for her own ancestral homeland.

The ethically challenged lawmaker has been a vocal critic of “white nationalism” as well as America in general, smearing those who have pride in her adopted country as dangerous racists, but as her behavior at the Somali festival illustrates, one person’s “racism” is another’s patriotism.

X users didn’t hesitate to point out the double standard.

“One of the dumbest things about the debate over ‘nationalism’ is that the same people who tell you it’s toxic and dangerous in the West will then dance on stage in a nationalistic frenzy over a country so dangerous they can’t even live there,” one user noted.

“Everyone is a blood and soil nationalist for the people they actually like,” wrote another.

Also enjoying himself at Saturday’s Somali Independence Day fest was Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, who displayed a miniature Somalia flag and delivered remarks to the thousands of members of the diaspora who turned out to show their national pride, one user pointed out.

“Happy Somali Independence Day!” Frey declared. “Here in Minnesota, home to one of the largest Somali communities in the United States, we celebrate the resilience, culture, and leadership that continue to enrich our city and community.”

The local politicians didn’t mention anything about the rampant fraud and corruption scandal that has engulfed the Somali community in Minnesota, with members of the diaspora engaging in the theft of potentially billions of dollars from social service and welfare programs.
