NBC heaps praise on ‘amazing’ LGBTQ summer camp for kids ages 5 through 13

NBC News ran a segment on Wednesday promoting a New York-area LGBT- and Pride-themed summer camp for children between the ages of five and 13.

Narrated by correspondent Steven Romo, the segment portrayed the camp as a positive for children who — for whatever reason — identify as gay or transgender.

“This camp’s only in its third year right now, but parents and organizers agree: it’s much needed, a place where these kids can not just be tolerated but celebrated. For many kids, camp helps add some sparkle to their summers. At New Country Pride Camp, that sparkle is a lot more literal,” he began.

“Now in its third year, the program is specifically aimed at serving LGBT+ kids and children of people in those communities. These pride campers from across New York City have come for a taste of typical summer fun: Camp staples like swimming, rock climbing, and arts and crafters, but the campers also get some more pride-centric activities, all with a focus on inclusivity and self-expression,” he continued.

Notice the use of left-wing buzzwords like “inclusivity,” a phrase that ostensibly means tolerance for everybody. Why ostensibly? Because oftentimes, those preaching “inclusivity” are very intolerant of conservatives and other dissenters.

The NBC hosts heaped praise on the “amazing” camp.

Continuing his report, Romo noted that the camp even has “LGBT+ counselors” on hand to “help show the kids the joy and connection of  being in the queer community.”

“One of the realities still today about being an LGBT+ kid is a sense of isolation. When kids are here at Pride camp, they are accepted and they are a part of the group, and the hope is they’ll be able to take that sense of belonging outside these campgrounds,” he said.

“While some of these kids at Pride camp do see it as pretty much any other day camp … to others it’s a much-needed place where they’re able to have fun and fully be themselves,” he concluded.

The response to NBC News’ report has been one of shock and disgust, with parents and others confused over how in the world children as young as five would know what it means to be gay, transgender, etc.

Yet according to reports, these summer camps are a modern craze, in that they’re happening everywhere, from California on up to New York.

Take Camp Lilac, an Ohio summer camp specifically “for transgender and gender diverse youth.”

A typical day at the camp involves showers, meals, regular activities (hiking, boating, swimming), and even “trans-centered activities.”

“My son has to have his defenses up and maxed all day, every day until he gets home. At camp, he’s just who he is! Unapologetically! Running around in his [chest] binder and not having to explain himself,” one attendee’s parent is quoted as saying on the camp’s website.

Then there’s Camp Mulberry, which is for transgender kids as young as six. Again, it’s not clear how a six-year-old would even know what it means to be transgender.

“The Laurel Foundation’s Camp Mulberry is the nation’s first cost-free resident camp program specifically for transgender and gender diverse youth, ages 6-17. This camp is an amazing experience for youth looking for a safe space to be their most authentic selves, create a life-long peer support group, and enjoy traditional outdoor camp experiences – such as kayaking, rock climbing, archery, and more!” the camp’s website reads.

“Our volunteer counselors are fully vetted and trained transgender / gender diverse adults who will serve as mentors for our youth. We will also have social workers and registered nurses present at camp. Campers are placed in cabin groups based on gender identity and age. Summer Camp will be a week-long, residential experience in Southern California. Youth from around the country are invited to attend!” it continues.

According to The Daily Wire, there are also camps that don’t disclose their location because of security concerns.

“The Trans Youth Equality Foundation (TYEF) hosts a youth camp for ‘transgender and non-binary’ children in a ‘confidential location in New England’ where children as young as 7 years old may attend. The organization also provides free chest binders for girls under 18 who identify as boys. TYEF is promoted on the Maine Department of Education’s website,” the news publisher notes.
