NBC touts LGBTQ+ soldiers fighting on the front line in Ukraine: ‘Acceptance grows’

Even war reporting proved not immune to corporate media’s “journactivists” as more than a year into the Russian invasion of Ukraine, ordinary puff pieces on soldier bravery have been sidelined to tout how LGBT “acceptance grows.”

Whether it be mission creep or just the latest example of how all issues inevitably get refocused under the lens of alphabet activism, NBC News saw fit to expound on the impact felt in the war-torn country from the contributions of soldiers under the rejiggered “LGTBQ” banner in a featured article headlined, “As Ukraine’s LGBTQ soldiers fight on the front line, acceptance grows in the conservative country.”

“On a riotous Instagram profile featuring pole-dancing, cross-dressing and fierce makeup, a picture of Ivan Honzyk in high heels and stockings next to an image of him in military uniform has gotten the most likes by far,” the outlet began their report.

“The junior sergeant’s posts are a bold statement in socially conservative Ukraine, where pride parades were often attacked before the war and swaths of the country are occupied by forces loyal to Russia, one of the world’s most conspicuously homophobic states,” it continued.

In an interview, Honzyk, 27, highlighted the opinion of fellow Ukrainian soldiers on his efforts with a medical unit in the eastern city of Bakhmut. “My fellow soldiers are really impressed with what I’ve done in Bakhmut, the massive scale of work that I did there, and after that they just don’t care about who I sleep with.”

“The parades and pride events were not enough,” he leveled as the outlet detailed rainbow-aligned soldiers had taken to wearing unicorn insignias on their uniform, “an ironic riposte” to the idea that they don’t serve in the military. “The better way to change attitudes is what we’re doing now. We entered the military and we’re showing that we’re worthy. We’re not hiding somewhere at the back. We’re doing real missions, dangerous missions.”

Further imposing leftist ideas on the rest of the world, the outlet attempted to redirect Ukraine’s traditional opposition to homosexuality toward Russia where President Vladimir Putin had expanded laws against such practices. In fact, they went on to demonize American conservatives in their goal to protect children from genital mutilation and chemical castration because Putin has expressed his favor toward the same “traditional values.”

Without defining what homophobia was or providing examples of the alleged bullying experienced, NBC News looped back to the tamest of justifications for pro-alphabet legislation as Ukrainian MP Inna Sovsun set sights on passing a same-sex relationships bill.

“When a person in uniform says, ‘Look, I have a loved one. If I am killed in action protecting this country, protecting every single one of you, my partner will not be able to make decisions about where to bury me because there is no legal connection between us,’ that is something that society cannot say no to,” she argued, “because they are in uniform and risking their lives every single minute for us.”

Sovsun noted that a majority of Ukrainians supported the move and the U.S.-based National Democratic Institute was cited as a source for that polling. Harkening back to the all-too-common maxim to never let a crisis go to waste, it’s worth noting that according to their own website, “The National Democratic Institute is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, nongovernmental organization with a loose affiliation with the Democratic Party. We do not operate in the United States and we take no position on U.S. elections. We have no political agenda and work with democrats of all political stripes around the world.”

They listed former South Dakota Sen. Tom Daschle, one-time Senate Majority Leader, who was defeated in 2004 by Republican John Thune, as chair of their board of directors.
