Law enforcement has identified the gunman who killed two and wounded seven, shattering the security of a small Idaho town.
On Sunday, Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks identified 24-year-old Chad Williams as the man who opened fire at the newly opened In-N-Out and nearby Visitor Center in Twin Falls, Idaho. He would quickly end his own life after being engaged by an off-duty officer and a good Samaritan, who undoubtedly bought time for innocent community members to escape the area.

A GiveSendGo campaign reveals how Austin James ran toward the sound of gunfire as he and his wife sat in the restaurant’s drive-thru.
“Knowing the danger, he intentionally did not draw his firearm as he approached because he didn’t want to be mistaken for the suspect by responding law enforcement or others,” the campaign reads. “As Austin rounded the corner to assess the situation, he came face-to-face with the gunman. The suspect raised a rifle and shot Austin. The bullet shattered his humerus and severed an artery, causing life-threatening injuries.”
James was rushed to the hospital by his wife and their friend, both emergency room nurses, while the gunman was forced to retreat.
Jordan Salinas also drew his handgun on the shooter, engaging him in a firefight that left Salinas wounded. In a Facebook post from Sunday, he thanked those who have sent him messages and well-wishes, and vowed to give a full account of his side of the story when he is able.

“The last 24 hours have been overwhelming. I want to sincerely thank my family, friends, and everyone who has reached out with messages, prayers, and support. I haven’t been able to respond to everyone yet, but please know I’ve seen your messages, and they mean more to me than I can put into words,” he wrote. “In the coming days, I’ll share a more complete account of what happened, to the best of my recollection, when I’m able.”
“For now, my heart remains with the victims, their families, and everyone affected by yesterday’s tragedy. Thank you for continuing to keep them in your thoughts and prayers, and thank you all for the incredible support you’ve shown me and my family,” Salinas added.
The identities of those killed in the shooting have not yet been revealed by law enforcement, though In-N-Out Burger’s president Lynsi Snyder said that one of the store’s associates lost her life in the attack.
Law enforcement indicates that Williams’ family has been cooperative in their investigation and is “heartbroken” by Saturday’s tragic events. No official information on his motive has been released at this time.
