New poll reveals Schumer approval ratings are the lowest of the low

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-New York, has the dubious honor of having the lowest approval rating of any political leader in the United States.

According to a new Gallup poll, released December 22, Congressional approval ratings are low across the board, but Schumer and Senate Republican Leader John Thune make up the absolute bottom of the list.

“A steady 36% of Americans approve of Donald Trump’s job performance, including 89% of Republicans, 25% of independents and 3% of Democrats. The president’s approval rating is unchanged from last month, when it fell to the lowest of his second term, just barely above his personal low of 34% in January 2021,” the polling site reported.

“None of 12 other U.S. leaders from Congress, the Cabinet, the Supreme Court or the Federal Reserve earn majority-level approval either. Just two — Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell (44%) and Secretary of State Marco Rubio (41%) — are rated above 40%. Meanwhile, Senate Republican Leader John Thune (34%) and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (28%) rank at the bottom of the list,” it continues.

Other high-profile political names are enjoying approval ratings between 35% to 39%:

Perhaps most telling is that Schumer isn’t even enjoying majority support among his own party, scoring a mere 39% of Democrat approval, while a whopping 56% disapprove. This is a stark contrast from two years ago, when 76% approved of his job and only 20% disapproved.

“At the same time, Schumer’s House-side counterpart Jeffries’ rating has seen a smaller erosion among Democrats, from 80% approval/16% disapproval in 2023 to the current 64% approval/35% disapproval,” the report adds.

The New York Post also pointed out that New Yorkers aren’t exactly fans either, meaning that he can’t even find supporters among the people who vote for him.

“A Siena College poll of New York state voters taken last month also showed Schumer with his lowest approval rating in 21 years of surveys. A majority of voters in deep blue New York had an unfavorable view of the longtime senator,” the outlet reported.
