New York Dems hoist ‘Pride’ flag at iconic Stonewall Monument in defiance of Trump admin

New York City Democrats gathered at the Stonewall National Monument in Greenwich Village, where they defiantly hoisted a new rainbow colored “Pride” flag after the existing one was removed in compliance with the Trump administration’s guidance about the display of flags.

On Thursday, lawmakers, including Reps. Dan Goldman (D-NY) and Jerry Nadler (D-NY) joined Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal and a crowd of activists to raise their new flag after whipping up the usual outrage about President Donald J. Trump, whom they accused of trying to erase LGBTQ+ history.

The site of the Stonewall Inn, where homosexuals clashed with police in violent riots back in 1969, has long been a symbol of gay rights and was officially designated as a national monument by President Barack Obama in 2016.

“We have brought the flag back to a sacred site,” Hoylman-Sigal told the cheering crowd through a bullhorn as the rainbow banner was raised next to a U.S. flag that had been put up to replace the “Pride” flag that had been taken down earlier this week.

To Democrats and their leftist flock, Stonewall is akin to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Wailing Wall, and the Great Mosque of Mecca, a sacred site of their own religion, and they aren’t about to allow it to be desecrated by something so trivial as federal government policy.

The flag was quietly removed by the National Park Service (NPS), which is overseen by the Department of the Interior under guidance that “only the U.S. flag and other congressionally or departmentally authorized flags are flown on NPS-managed flagpoles, with limited exceptions.”

“We won’t let Trump erase LGBTQ+ history,” declared Nadler in a post to X before he joined the festivities.

“The Pride Flag flies again at Stonewall. The Trump administration tried to erase our vibrant LGBTQ+ history by literally tearing down our flag. This isn’t their first attempt to spew hate and erase our history, and it won’t be the last. But rest assured we won’t let them,” Goldman crowed on X.

Earlier on Thursday, the New York City Council passed a resolution denouncing the removal of the precious flag and demanding that Congress “respect the true history and significance” of national parks, especially when it comes to Stonewall.

In an ugly tirade delivered on the floor of City Hall, Chi Ossé, who chairs the LGBTQIA+ caucus, smeared Trump as a “pedophile” who is scapegoating homosexuals.

“There’s a pedophile of the United States who’s sitting in the White House,” Ossé said, according to the New York Post. “Donald Trump is potentially doing this to distract from the fact that he is in the Epstein files. He’s trying to rile us all up.”

“He’s attacking queer people, trans people, minorities that exist within our society, to try to distract us from the fact that there are billionaires and pedophiles who are being held unaccountable within this country,” the unhinged local politician raged.

“New Yorkers are right to be outraged, but if there’s one thing I know about this latest attempt to rewrite history, stoke division and discrimination, and erase our community pride it’s this: that flag will return. New Yorkers will see to it,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) vowed in a Tuesday post to X.

“I am outraged by the removal of the Rainbow Pride Flag from Stonewall National Monument. New York is the birthplace of the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement, and no act of erasure will ever change, or silence, that history,” New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani fumed on X.

“Hundreds of families in New York City went without power during this year’s severe cold weather, people are being found dead on the streets, and trash has piled up so high it towers over city residents. This is Mayor Mamdani and city officials’ New York City,” the Department of the Interior said in a statement blasting Hizzoner and the Democrats over their silly spectacle.

“While today’s political stunt is a distraction from their recent deadly failures, it would be a better use of their time to get the trash buildup off city streets, ensure there are no more avoidable deaths, and work to keep the power on for the people of New York City. Today’s political pageantry shows how utterly incompetent and misaligned the New York City officials are with the problems their city is facing,” the statement read, according to ABC7 New York.
