Governor Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.) gushed praise for President Joe Biden, brushing off any concerns about his age while mocking the GOP impeachment inquiry and admitting Hunter Biden is a problem.
The progressive Democrat power broker basically pledged his undying support for Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in an interview on CNN Monday, a move that rings hollow to many as it is suspected he has presidential aspirations himself. He continues to laugh off questions of his challenging Biden, but if the president is forced into not running, Newsom is seen as waiting in the wings to pounce at the chance of securing the nomination for 2024.
Newsom asserted that 80-year-old Biden had delivered a “masterclass” in governance and stated that the value of his experience far outweighs his age. He dismissed any concerns about Biden’s age out of hand.
Just one-third of voters think Biden will last through a second term if re-elected, according to a new CBS/YouGov survey. Many are convinced he won’t even make it through campaigning.
What does CA Governor @GavinNewsom think of concerns about President Biden’s age as he seeks reelection? “I want a seasoned pro that knows how to get things done.” He also gives an unequivocal answer about @vp Kamala Harris. Here’s more of our conversation: pic.twitter.com/mVzfX7m3cY

CNN’s Dana Bash asked the governor whether voters should be concerned over the age issue.
“Voters have every right to be concerned,” he commented and then threw the Kennedy card. “But Bobby Kennedy said it best: what the world needs are the qualities of youth, not a time of life but a state of mind. A quality of imagination.”
“I couldn’t imagine this, three years ago, that this president could accomplish so much in such a short period of time,” Newsom remarked, adding he wanted “a seasoned pro, who knows how to get things done.”
He continued to praise the Marxist damage that Biden has inflicted on the nation as if it were some kind of blessing. He certainly thinks it serves as a lesson to conservatives.

“And the results are in: it’s been a masterclass. There’s simply been no administration in my lifetime that has been more effective in producing more substantive results,” he claimed and then went on to contend that Harris was vital to Biden’s success.
Newsom insisted that Harris was “absolutely” the best person to be Biden’s running mate in 2024.
“By definition, if I think this administration in the last two or three years has been one of the most outstanding administrations in the last decades, and she’s a member of the administration, she gets to claim credit. The answer is yes: absolutely,” he said.
When asked about the mess Hunter Biden has created, he said he “doesn’t love” what he has heard about the first son benefiting from his father’s position. Newsom was careful to keep the president blameless in all of it. He then attacked Republicans for their impeachment inquiry against Biden, calling it a “joke” and like “student government.”
CA Governor @GavinNewsom told me in an exclusive interview that House Republicans’ impeachment inquiry is like student government – “ready, fire, aim,” – but he also said that he doesn’t love Hunter Biden parlaying his father’s influence in his business dealings. He then tried to justify the grift and corruption of father and son.
“I don’t know enough about the details of that. I mean, I’ve seen a little of that. If that’s the new criteria, there are a lot of folks in a lot of industries, not just in politics, where people have family members and relationships and they are trying to parlay a little, get a little influence and benefit in that respect, that’s hardly unique. I don’t love that any more than you love it or other people, I imagine, love that. We want to see a lot less of that,” he deflected.
“An impeachment inquiry? Give me a break, This is student government This is a joke. Ready, fire, aim. I mean, this is a perversity with what the Founding Fathers ever conceived of and imagined. So if that’s the best they can do, give me a break,” Newson sneered.
He also said that Democrats should stop “navel-gazing about Joe Biden” and “get going.”
“Let’s get on the train. This train has left the proverbial station,” Newsom declared.
