NFL invites performer to sing Black national anthem at Super Bowl LX

The National Football League (NFL) has invited Coco Jones to sing the “Black national anthem” at Super Bowl LX.

She will be performing “Lift Every Voice and Sing” at the annual event, which is scheduled to take place on February 8 at Santa Clara, California’s Levi Stadium. Other performances include Charlie Puth singing the national anthem and Brandi Carlile singing “America the Beautiful.” Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny has been tapped to perform the halftime show, which generated a lot of controversy when it was announced.

“Super Bowl Sunday is the world’s biggest entertainment stage, and we’re proud to spotlight artists who embody the very best of music and culture,” announced NFL senior vice president of global event production Jon Barker. “Beyond the game itself, the Super Bowl is a global celebration. These artists bring a distinct voice to the moment, helping set the tone for a day that will captivate fans around the world.”

“Lift Every Voice and Sing” has been performed in the NFL since 2020, and has been promoted as the “Black national anthem” by the NAACP since 1917.

Jones is known for songs such as “ICU,” “Here We Go (Uh Oh),” and “Me and You.” Her first studio album, titled “Why Not More?” was released in April 2025, featuring artists like Future and YG Marley on her R&B tracks.
