Nick Shirley didn’t take too kindly to California Governor Gavin Newsom’s office making fun of his investigations.
Shirley went viral for his investigation into fraud in Minnesota, which uncovered the Quality “Learing” Center and other daycare centers that are allegedly engaged in suspicious practices while receiving millions in taxpayer funds. His recent door-to-door probes into California daycares have quickly gained traction online.

Perhaps this is the reason Newsom’s office decided to take a jab at the YouTuber.

Shirley quickly responded, calling out the office and advising they start working “for the people.”
You do realize I’m trying to help America eliminate fraud and waste right? No need to try and make me look like the bad guy for exposing fraud.
People are over it. Start working for the people and not against them.

“You do realize I’m trying to help America eliminate fraud and waste right? No need to try and make me look like the bad guy for exposing fraud. People are over it. Start working for the people and not against them,” the investigative journalist fired back.
His post racked up significantly more likes and re-posts than Newsom’s, a “ratio” pointed out by several people in the replies.
This ratio is perfection.

Now that’s a ratio. Wow.
— MAZE (@mazemoore) March 17, 2026
And that, my friends, is what they call a brutal ratio.

Meanwhile, back on Newsom’s post, the comments didn’t go quite as well.
this reply comes as no surprise. but it’s evidence of just how unfit democrats are for positions of power.

To be expected from someone who scores below average on the SAT and only because of priviledge is where they are at

I don’t remember him taking any photos of daycare kids in Minnesota. Lots of daytime photos of these centers, no kids.

Pathetic attempt to draw attention away from the fact that Newsom’s administration and tenure has been a dumpster fire for CA, and it’s riddled with fraud and waste.

Cute meme. Quick question- is Nick right or not? Seems like what he’s saying deserves an answer

Please tell us this post was created after hours by an unattended intern on THC gummies, and not by an official mouthpiece of a state governor’s office.
