Nikki Haley takes a swipe at ‘reckless’ Trump, suggests he put military members in danger

Former President Donald J. Trump’s legal problems have provided his Republican competitors for the party’s 2024 nomination an opening to whittle away at his aura of inevitability and former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley did exactly that by backing off of her initial defense of her one-time boss to swipe at him on Fox News.

Haley appeared on Monday’s edition of “The Story,” where she discussed the Biden regime’s indictment of the embattled ex-POTUS on the eve of his arraignment in a Miami courtroom with host Martha MacCallum, suggesting that Trump’s “reckless” handling of classified information could have put U.S. military personnel in danger.

“He’s facing this indictment tomorrow,” MacCallum said. “Obviously, these are serious, serious accusations and a situation that he finds himself in. What’s your reaction to what’s going on and what we’re gonna see play out tomorrow? What do you say to voters about how they should look at this?”

After she initially defended Trump, Haley pivoted. “Two things can be true at the same time. One, the DOJ and FBI have lost all credibility with the American people. And getting rid of just senior management isn’t gonna be enough to fix this. This is gonna take a complete overhaul and we have to do that,” the former South Carolina governor said.

“Two, the second thing can also be true. If this indictment is true, if what it says is actually the case, President Trump was incredibly reckless with our national security,” she added. “More than that, I’m a military spouse. My husband’s about to deploy this weekend. This puts all of our military men and women in danger if you’re going to talk about what our military is capable of or how we would about invading or doing something with one of our enemies. And if that’s the case, it’s reckless, it’s frustrating, and it causes problems.”

Haley was singing a different tune after the news broke of President Joe Biden and Attorney General Merrick Garland’s banana republic move of indicting Trump under the World War I-era Espionage Act using special counsel Jack Smith as their guided missile to sink the former president’s battleship.

“This is not how justice should be pursued in our country,” Haley tweeted on Friday. “The American people are exhausted by the prosecutorial overreach, double standards, and vendetta politics. It’s time to move beyond the endless drama and distractions.”

Like other Trump hires including former Attorney General Bill Barr and ex-veep Mike Pence, Haley will get plenty of face time in the media as Trump’s legal troubles, which could soon include more indictments, play out in the coming months.
