Now the Biden regime is coming after the ceiling fans

Not satisfied with the crackdown on gas stoves, dishwashers, and water heaters, the Biden administration is now targeting ceiling fans as the latest common household appliance to land on the hit list of its extreme climate change agenda.

The Department of Energy is proposing a new rule that will require ceiling fans to be more energy-efficient and says that once implemented, households will see a whopping $39 in savings over the lifespan of the fans but the costs to manufacturers would be far more dramatic with the rule costing $86.6 million per year, the DOE said.

“DOE maintains that environmental and public health benefits associated with the more efficient use of energy are important to take into account when considering the need for national energy conservation,” the department said in its proposal that was posted to the Federal Register in June.

Republicans on the House Small Business Committee contend that if the new rule is allowed to go into effect, the increased costs could drive some manufacturers out of business.

“This rule would require numerous small business fan manufacturers to redesign their products and may put between 10 and 30 percent of small business ceiling fan manufacturers out of business,” GOP committee members wrote in a Thursday letter to Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, a full-fledged member of the climate cult.  “It appears that the Department of Energy (DOE) may not have properly considered small entities during this rulemaking process.”

The letter was signed by Chairman Roger Williams (R-TX), Rep. Beth Van Duyne (R-TX), Rep. Maria Salazar (R-FL), Rep. Jake Ellzey (R-TX), and Rep. Aaron Bean (R-FL).

“It is important for agencies to examine small businesses interests—which make up 99.9 percent of all businesses in the United States—when passing any new rule. America’s small businesses deserve to have their voices heard and considered,” the letter reads.

“They’ve had the intention to regulate industrial fans for years… I think the reason they’re getting around to it now is because Biden has told every department to go and make things more green…,” Phil Eggers, the founder and CEO of Texas-based Super Duty Fans told Fox Business.

“They’re spending more money on lawyers and Department of Energy people than they will ever save in 30 years of energy savings, it’s just ridiculous,” he said.

The Department of Energy defended the proposal in a statement to Fox Business.

“These proposed standards, which are required by Congress, wouldn’t take effect until 2028, would give Americans more energy efficient options to choose from, and would save hardworking taxpayers up to $369 million per year, while substantially reducing harmful air pollution — a crucial fact that some have conveniently failed to mention,” a DOE spokesperson said in the Friday statement.

“Their philosophy is energy efficiency at all costs or energy efficiency no matter the cost,” a former senior DOE official, who served in the Trump administration, previously said to Fox News Digital. “That means we are going to see, as a result of their efficiency standards, higher-priced appliances. It’s that simple.”
