Staffers at Democrat propaganda organ National Public Radio (NPR) mistakenly received an email telling host Ari Shapiro that he couldn’t attend an LGBTQ “Pride” event, sparking a reaction that quickly forced a management reversal.
The email from the NPR managing editor for standards and practices, Tony Cavin, was first reported by Semafor, which said that Shapiro was “dissuaded” from attending the corporate event, a private communication that was “apparently sent by accident” to the staff at the public broadcaster.
“The guidance in our ethics handbook is to ‘avoid appearances at private industry or corporate functions,’” Cavin wrote in the email, which was reviewed by the outlet. “Because this is a closed corporate event I think it would be best to politely decline.”
New: NPR’s standards editor seemingly accidentally sent an email to the entire newsroom today advising All Things Considered host Ari Shapiro against attending a pride event.

Shapiro, who is openly and proudly homosexual, balked, firing off a response to Cavin pointing out that he had previously been allowed to appear at “Pride” events and putting him on the spot to explain what’s different this time.
“Every year, I’ve spoken at corporate pride events, and you’ve personally signed off on them. It has never been an issue before,” he wrote. “I’m curious what’s changed.” The host also pointed out to Cavin that he had “mistakenly replied to newsdesk and international editors,” so the message “went to pretty much everyone in the newsroom.”
Later on Wednesday, the organization flip-flopped and will permit the “All Things Considered” host to attend the event after all, likely fearing an internal mutiny from left-wing staffers and a fierce backlash from the powerful LGBTQ lobby that’s become the proverbial tail wagging the dog and has wielded a disproportionate amount of influence on national politics and policy.
“This decision was made shortly after the original email thread,” an NPR spokesperson was quoted by Semafor.
The email comes at a time when the biased “news” organization is being scrutinized by congressional Republicans and, like other federal entities, is having to adapt to President Donald J. Trump’s purging of toxic and discriminatory DEI from the government.
NPR has faced criticism for its “obsession with DEI” and is being closely examined by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which is working to cut wasteful programs, especially unnecessary DEI expenses that were allowed to proliferate under the Biden administration.
Last month, DOGE Subcommittee Chair Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) called on the CEO’s of NPR and PBS to testify at a hearing about their organizations’ “biased news coverage produced on behalf of federally funded radio and TV stations.”

NPR responded that it “welcomes the opportunity” to testify and that it prides itself on adhering “to the highest standards of journalism,” a laughable statement considering the amount of left-wing and DNC propaganda that it pumps out on a daily basis to its gullible audience.
“Our President and CEO Katherine Maher received a request to testify before the Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency in March,” NPR said. “We welcome the opportunity to discuss the critical role of public media in delivering impartial, fact-based news and reporting to the American public.”
