After a New York Magazine reporter was placed on leave for her “personal relationship” with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., her former betrothed issued his own statement about covering the political figure.
As Election Day close to within little more than six weeks, scandalous allegations were becoming a focus on the campaign trail. While North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson (R) denied allegations about purported comments on a porn message board, and former first lady Melania Trump once again defended posing for nude photos, Politico reporter Ryan Lizza issued a limited statement on his ex-fiancée’s communications with the former presidential candidate.
“Because of my connection to this story through my ex-fiancée,” 50-year-old Lizza was credited as saying in Friday’s Politico Playbook, “my editors and I have agreed that I won’t be involved in any coverage of Kennedy in Playbook or elsewhere at POLITICO.”
As had previously been reported, statements from New York Magazine and 31-year-old Olivia Nuzzi confirmed that she had been placed on leave for engaging in a “personal relationship” with someone connected to the 2024 race for the White House.
“Recently our Washington Correspondent Olivia Nuzzi acknowledged to the magazine’s editors that she had engaged in a personal relationship with a former subject relevant to the 2024 campaign while she was reporting on the campaign, a violation of the magazine’s standards around conflicts of interest and disclosures,” the outlet stated.
“Had the magazine been aware of this relationship,” it asserted, “she would not have continued to cover the presidential campaign. An internal review of her published work has found no inaccuracies nor evidence of bias. She is currently on leave from the magazine, and the magazine is conducting a more thorough third-party review. We regret this violation of our readers’ trust.”

In her own remarks to Status, Nuzzi had expressed, “Earlier this year, the nature of some communication between myself and a former reporting subject turned personal. I did not directly report on the subject nor use them as a source. The relationship was never physical but should have been disclosed to prevent the appearance of a conflict. I deeply regret not doing so immediately and apologize to those I’ve disappointed, especially my colleagues at New York.”
Meanwhile, as speculation about the extent of the “relationship” between the reporter and Kennedy circulated, Puck News reported how a source alleged the communications between the pair included her sharing risqué photos with the 70-year-old environmental attorney.
What was known was that Nuzzi and Lizza had publicly announced their engagement in 2022 and had broken those plans earlier this year.
Speaking on behalf of Kennedy, a spokesperson told Fox News Digital, “Mr. Kennedy only met Olivia Nuzzi once in his life for an interview she requested, which yielded a hit piece.”
