NY Gov. Hochul gets blitzed by fans after postponing NFL playoff game, banning all travel

Football fans blitzed New York Governor Kathy Hochul with criticism after the Democrat strongwoman postponed Sunday’s NFL wild-card playoff game because of a snowstorm in Buffalo.

On Saturday, the Democrat strongwoman announced that the first-round contest between the Buffalo Bills and the visiting Pittsburgh Steelers would instead kick off at 4:30 p.m. on Monday at Highmark Stadium.

“I’ve been in communication with@NFL commissioner Roger Goodell regarding the dangerous conditions in Buffalo this weekend,” Hochul wrote on X, formerly Twitter. In consultation with our emergency response teams, @BuffaloBills leadership, and the NFL, the Bills game will be postponed to 4:30 pm Monday.”

“A winter storm warning is in effect for Buffalo and surrounding counties, including Orchard Park in Erie County, the site of the stadium, until 7 a.m. Monday. More than a foot of snow — and as much as 3 feet — is expected in the Buffalo area, according to AccuWeather, ESPN reported. In other words, it’s called winter in Buffalo.

The team confirmed the bad news.

“Due to public safety concerns in light of the ongoing weather emergency in western New York, Sunday’s Steelers-Bills game has been rescheduled to Monday at 4:30 p.m. ET and will be televised by CBS,” the NFL said in a statement. “The decision to move the game to Monday was made in consultation with New York Governor Kathy Hochul in the best interest of public safety, and with the Buffalo Bills and the Pittsburgh Steelers, as the region prepares for the storm.”

It’s the second controversy involving Super Wild-Card Weekend for the NFL which was already lambasted over the Saturday night game between the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins being broadcast exclusively on the pay streaming service Peacock, a big middle finger to fans from Commissioner Roger Goodell.

The news drew a fierce reaction from X users who hammered Hochul over the extremely rare postponement of an NFL contest, a playoff game no less.

Considering the way that Bills played in last year’s playoff blizzard game when they had their helmets handed to them in a 27-10 beatdown by the Cincinnati Bengals, Hochul’s dictatorial flexing of the Steelers game may be a big favor.

“Now, you may see clear skies [Sunday] morning, but don’t be fooled,” Hochul said. “The bull’s-eye of the storm is predicted to hit midday Sunday afternoon right during the scheduled Buffalo Bills game. … [The game will] continue to be played at Highmark Field right in Orchard Park. It’s all part of our critical efforts to keep New Yorkers, motorists and fans safe from this wildly unpredictable storm,” Hochul said, according to ESPN.

In the finest traditions of lockdown Democrats, the governor also announced a full ban on travel, because nothing says “our democracy” quite like cracking down on free movement.

It’s hard to imagine a game being postponed back in the day when the NFL was a man’s game but when the league’s top attraction is now Taylor Swift it’s just one more sad example of the decline of the once great sport under Goodell.

And in other related news, everyone’s going to die because of global warming.
