A corporate media narrative on the “cruel kids” supporting President Donald Trump sparked social media backlash over a seemingly deliberate effort to make MAGA out to be “some racist cult.”
“You don’t hate the liberal media enough.”
After a week of keeping promises on the campaign trail, the celebratory air regarding the GOP leader’s return to the White House has yet to abate from the inaugural festivities. The same could be said of the vitriol from corporate media as New York Magazine was called out over a piece published Monday that used a carefully edited photo to suggest only white people were in attendance at an event of “casually cruel Trumpers.”
Drawing attention to the cover photo for the story dubbed, “The Cruel Kids’ Table,” political commentator Rob Smith decried the juxtaposed image with the narrative as he wrote on X, “I was at this party as were MANY other Conservative media influencers who are Black, Latino, Asian, etc. @NYMag used a whites only photo to push the media narrative that diverse Republicans don’t exist and weren’t welcome. You don’t hate the media enough.”
Likewise, CJ Pearson, co-chair of the GOP’s Youth Advisory Council, reacted, “This is insane. I hosted this event and @NYMag intentionally left me out of their story because it would have undermined their narrative that MAGA is some racist cult. They also didn’t include the fact that @WakaFlocka and @Gervontaa were also there. You don’t hate the liberal media enough.”

During the same weekend of festivities that had included a performance from Snoop Dogg, Pearson shared more images tagging Xaviaer DuRousseau, Vernon Jones, and Wacka Flock Flame as he wrote, “@NYMag accused me of hosting a white-only inauguration rager. I guess none of these black people got the memo?”

A wider shot of the same image appearing on the magazine’s website showed a number of non-white individuals who hadn’t made the cut for the cropped cover.
American Conservative Coalition President Christopher Barnard highlighted a number of quotes from the piece including one that read, “Almost everyone is white,” and another citing “an older woman” who was said to have remarked, “Have you noticed the entire room is white?”
The story was pinned to the top of the magazine’s social media account at the time of the post and expressed how self-identified “non-binary” writer Brock Colyar “reported on the young, gleeful, confident, and casually cruel Trumpers who, after conquering Washington, have their sights set on the rest of America.”
Colyar’s X account was said to have been switched to private as backlash ensued, the Daily Mail reported.
Within the piece, the writer detailed, “Among the tourists from Tampa, the donors, and the last politicians Trump whipped into submission, one can also witness the emerging influence of a newer type of conservative. They are not disenfranchised or working class or anti-elite or many of the other adjectives used to describe Trump supporters since 2016. Rather, they are young, imposingly well connected, urban, and very online.”
“They are crypto nerds and influencer girlies and recent maha converts and gays of all stripes, plus your standard-fare Joe Rogan-listening bros. Few of them would call themselves Republican,” continued Colyar. “Many are hot enough to be extras in the upcoming American Psycho remake.”
“The men look like Pete Hegseth, in bow ties and black suits, with clean-shaven faces. The women are almost all out of their league,” contended the writer.
In addition to failing to make the Trump supporters look bad, as many commented about how much fun the party appeared to be, social media users readily piled on with more disdain for the futile efforts of corporate media to malign the MAGA movement.
Absolutely insane dude…..
Straight up lie & deceive people & then wonder why they are dying out & everyone laughs at their propaganda.

@NYMag discrimination by avoidance. Why didnt you publish a photo that actually represented the event? Do you have something against people of color? #CancelNYMag
