NYC Mayor Eric Adams sets up $2M emergency fund for trans care on his way out the door

Outgoing New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced the creation of a $2 million emergency fund for transgender and “gender nonconforming” care to partially make up for federal cuts to controversial programs.

With only two days left in his term, Adams’ office put out a Tuesday statement announcing the fund on his way out the door, a sop to the minuscule but disproportionately influential demographic that insists that it must be affirmed by society as a whole.

“New York City Mayor Eric Adams today announced a $2 million emergency fund to support organizations serving transgender, gender nonconforming, or nonbinary (TGNCNB) New Yorkers,” read the statement, which touted the fund as “the first of its kind in the nation.”

“Our administration will always ensure that members of the LGBTQ+ community are protected and have access to the care they need and deserve,” Adams said.

“With this announcement of $2 million in emergency relief to providers who serve transgender, gender nonconforming, and gender nonbinary New Yorkers, we are putting our money where our values are and stepping up to serve those who need our care,” Hizzoner added.

The money represents a symbolic gesture to the loyal Democrat demographic, but won’t come anywhere near making up for the $47 million that was cut by the Trump administration in October due to the Big Apple’s public school transgender policies.

The fund will be administered by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) and will provide up to  $92,000 to “approximately 20 experienced organizations that are positioned to continue delivering these services in 2026,” the mayor’s office said.

“We saw a need after federal budget cuts, and we are responding to it,” First Deputy Mayor Randy Mastro said. “There are essential services at stake for this community. Therefore, it was an imperative for us to take action and fill that need.”

“Actions by the federal government to reduce access to critical, evidence-based health care for transgender and gender-nonconforming people is unconscionable,” DOHMH Acting Commissioner Dr. Michelle Morse said in a statement. “Supporting New York’s community organizations that provide lifesaving services and are eligible for the emergency funds is a key part of the Health Department’s commitment to supporting the health and well-being of all New Yorkers.”

X users reacted to the announcement, questioning the priorities of city leaders who somehow can always find money for privileged demographics while Gotham deteriorates and criminals run amok.

With the clock now rapidly ticking down to the beginning of the Zohran Mamdani era, the scandal-tainted Adams just had to get in one last act of pandering before turning the keys over to City Hall to the “communist lunatic” who will replace him.
