NYC mayor finalizing Norwegian cruise ship as luxury new digs for illegals, on taxpayer dime

Increasingly desperate to find places where to house illegal aliens, New York City Mayor Eric Adams is now reaching out to cruise lines — yes, cruise lines.

“Mayor Eric Adams is finalizing a deal with the Norwegian Cruise Line to house migrants on one of its massive cruise ships and dock it at Staten Island’s Homeport,” the New York Post reported Friday, citing an unnamed source.

“Adams wants to lease the luxury liner for at least six months and use it to house and process migrants before they enter the city’s shelter system,” the Post added.

The illegal aliens would not only have the benefit of being able to enjoy temporary residence on a lavish cruise ship, but they’d also reportedly be allowed to come and go at whim. They’d essentially be living the high life, all at taxpayer expense.

The only good news is that housing the illegals on a cruise ship would reportedly be “cheaper” than building another tent city, according to the Post’s source.

One tent city that’s currently being built in the Bronx is expected to cost $15 million per month to maintain and operate.

“In addition to the Norwegian Cruise Line deal, the source said City Hall was negotiating the possible use of another ship owned by the Estonian company Tallink, which was hired by the Estonian government to house Ukrainian refugees who fled their country following Russia’s invasion,” according to the Post.

All this comes as border state governors continue to ship illegal aliens to liberal utopias like New York City to teach Democrats a lesson.

Ever since President Joe Biden took office, illegals have been taking advantage of his lax border policies and flooding across the border.

This flood of illegals has depleted resources and placed families at risk. The goal of governors like Texas’ Greg Abbott has been to give Democrat leaders such as Adams a taste of the medicine their open-borders policies are producing.

So far, the plan hasn’t really worked. While Adams has griped about his city running out of resources, he’s refused to condemn the president’s policies, instead directing all his anger and condemnation at border state governors.

Adams has also doubled down on his city’s “sanctuary city” status by vowing to house every single illegal who turns up in NYC. Besides building tent cities for the illegals, he’s also been housing them in hotels.

Moreover, he’s even been trying to get illegal migrants jobs. Indeed, during a National Press Club interview last month, he called for them to be immediately granted working papers by the federal government so that they can earn their own keep.

“I think it’s imperative that we look at the employment. Think about this for a moment. We’re telling migrants and asylum seekers, ‘You can come to the country, but for six months you can’t work.’ What? Six months you can’t work?” the mayor said.

“So six months you are having people who just sit idly by, waiting. So who’s supposed to pick up the tab for that? If the federal government is saying that for six months you can’t work, then the federal government should be saying for six months we [are] going to compensate you. Because someone has to pay for that.”

He added that letting illegals work could also satiate the demand for more workers.

“The strange thing is, particularly in New York and across the country, there’s such a demand for need of employees. Many of my industries are dying to get employees,” he said.

“So if you are a nurse from Venezuela, why am I having you sit down and not be using your medical profession to help in the hospitals that we have a shortage of nurses. If you are an engineer, we have a shortage of engineers. If you are a teacher, we have a shortage of teachers, bilingual teachers. So that six months delay is creating a bigger crisis.”

It’s not clear what it’ll take to wake up Democrats like Adams. It’s not clear that they can even be awakened from their liberal, utopian dream state.

To be fair to his constituents, some of them get it. Some of them like Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossella, who told the Post that he’s not down with the cruise ship idea.

“I am not for this cruise. Let’s avoid cruising for a bruising. What’s next? RVs on the street? These problems should not become Staten Island’s problem,” he said.

Exactly. Illegals should be no American citizen’s problem or responsibility. They should, according to conservatives, be deported to their home countries and therefore become said countries’ problem. Meanwhile, the Biden administration needs to stop incentivizing more illegal migration.

“This is a ludicrous idea that could only come out of an incompetent administration. Both Biden and Adams refuse to address the root of the problem and, instead, continue to incentivize illegal immigration,” one such Republican, New York Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, tweeted Friday.
