Former President Barack Obama commented on the “deeply troubling” behavior of President Donald Trump in his first remarks since a certain meme was posted on social media.
Speaking with podcaster Brian Tyler Cohen, Obama reacted to the “clown show” in the Trump administration, as he was asked about the “de-evolution of the discourse” from the White House. In his first comments since a headline-making Truth Social post that Trump had shared earlier this month, Obama complained about the current president’s actions and rhetoric.
As reported, Trump had posted a video that addressed the 2020 election, but evidently, he had not checked the autoplay feature before handing it off to a staffer to post. As the video ended, the next clip appeared to depict Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama as apes, Kamala Harris as a turtle, and Joe Biden as a gorilla.
After the uproar over alleged racism by the president, Trump explained that he’d only “looked at the first part” of the video before passing it off to his team. “It was about voter fraud … 2020 voter fraud, and I didn’t see the whole thing.”
Obama had remained quiet as Trump was excorated over the post, but broke his silence over what he called a lack of respect for the office of the presidency.
“I think it’s important to recognize that the majority of the American people find this behavior deeply troubling,” he told the podcast host.

“It is true that it gets attention. It’s true that it’s a distraction,” the former president continued. “But as I’m traveling around the country … [and] meet people, they still believe in decency, courtesy, kindness, and there’s this sort of clown show that’s happening in social media and on television.”
“And what is true is that there doesn’t seem to be any shame about this among people who used to feel like you had to have some sort of decorum and a sense of propriety and respect for the office [of the president], right?” Obama added.
In other parts of the interview, Obama continued to pat himself and Democrats on the back while offering what seemed like a rewriting of history, which was called out by those like UK journalist Piers Morgan, who called it “Preposterously disingenuous nonsense.”
