Pfizer denies top exec’s bombshell Covid-19 mutation claim, but statement reads like a confession

Pfizer published a press release Friday ostensibly pushing back on the allegations against it that were recently made by a top Pfizer official who was unknowingly being recorded, but according to critics, the press release almost sounds like a parody.

First, some background information.

As previously reported, last week journalists with Project Veritas released a video showing Jordon Trishton Walker, the Pfizer Director of Research and Development, Strategic Operations, and “mRNA Scientific Planner,” admitting to an undercover operative that the pharmaceutical giant is exploring “mutating” COVID-19 so that they can “preemptively” develop new vaccines.

The only way Pfizer could potentially “mutate” COVID-19 would be through gain-of-function or “directed evolution” research, i.e., the exact type of research that many believe precipitated the coronavirus pandemic.

The admission from Walker prompted both massive outrage and also congressional action. Republican Sen. Marco Rubio, for instance, sent a letter to Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla demanding answers.

“As has been proven time and time again, attempts to mutate a virus, particularly one as potent as COVID, are dangerous. If the claims detailed in the video are true, Pfizer has put its desire for profit over the concern of national and global health and must hold itself accountable,” Rubio wrote.

Pfizer officially responded to all the backlash with a lengthy press release Friday, but there was just one tiny problem. The press release did nothing to dispel Walker’s allegations. If anything, the release seemed to prove him right.

As noted be one critic, the press release accomplished this remarkable feat by basically just taking Walker’s allegations and rephrasing them with gobblygook:

“In the ongoing development of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, Pfizer has not conducted gain of function or directed evolution research. Working with collaborators, we have conducted research where the original SARS-CoV-2 virus has been used to express the spike protein from new variants of concern,” the press release begins.

“This work is undertaken once a new variant of concern has been identified by public health authorities. This research provides a way for us to rapidly assess the ability of an existing vaccine to induce antibodies that neutralize a newly identified variant of concern. We then make this data available through peer reviewed scientific journals and use it as one of the steps to determine whether a vaccine update is required.”

So that was the denial. The next part is where the problems begin.

“In addition, to meet U.S. and global regulatory requirements for our oral treatment, PAXLOVID™, Pfizer undertakes in vitro work (e.g., in a laboratory culture dish) to identify potential resistance mutations to nirmatrelvir, one of PAXLOVID’s two components,” press release continues.

“With a naturally evolving virus, it is important to routinely assess the activity of an antiviral. Most of this work is conducted using computer simulations or mutations of the main protease–a non-infectious part of the virus.”

So Pfizer appears to admit that they are mutating the virus after all. But it gets worse.

In a limited number of cases when a full virus does not contain any known gain of function mutations, such virus may be engineered to enable the assessment of antiviral activity in cells,” the press release continues.

“In addition, in vitro resistance selection experiments are undertaken in cells incubated with SARS-CoV-2 and nirmatrelvir in our secure Biosafety level 3 (BSL3) laboratory to assess whether the main protease can mutate to yield resistant strains of the virus. It is important to note that these studies are required by U.S. and global regulators for all antiviral products and are carried out by many companies and academic institutions in the U.S. and around the world.”

In other words, they ARE mutating (“engineering”) COVID-19, and they’re doing it because they’re allegedly being forced to by the government. Uh huh …

It’s not clear what will happen going forth.

Pfizer reportedly has yet to respond directly to Rubio’s letter, which included several questions needing answering, including “what efforts is Pfizer currently, or planning to, engage in to mutate the SARS-CoV-2 virus,” and “what steps has Pfizer taken to ensure the mutated virus does not leak from the laboratory and infect the greater population?”

With Republicans now in control of the House, it’s assumed that Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla will at some time be called before Congress to testify. Maybe then the American people will finally get some answers about what the hell the pharmaceutical giant is doing with the coronavirus …
