Social media users are marveling over the amazing “lucky break” that professional golfer Jordan Spieth caught after he crushed a long drive and then watched the ball strike a spectator before perfectly ricocheting off the fan and bouncing back onto the fairway instead of landing in the water.
The spectacular shot took place during Friday’s second-round action at the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass in Ponta Verde, Florida when Spieth stepped into the tee box on hole number nine at two strokes under par, and likely needing a birdie to advance, drawing back his swing and sent the ball on a towering drive only to watch it veer off to the far right and head toward the water, a landing place that would prematurely end the PGA tour star’s weekend.
“Is that out of play?” Spieth asked his caddie, Michael Greller, unaware that the ball was spared from landing in the drink when it smacked a man in the knee and deflected back onto the fairway, much to the golfer’s relief.

After the miraculous shot that saved his day, Spieth calmly completed the hole, by sinking his putt on the par five hole for an eagle instead of having to take the drop penalty.

Spieth discussed the drive that spared him from missing the cut and not advancing to this weekend’s tourney play.
“I got an extremely lucky break on number nine or I wouldn’t be playing the weekend so I’m trying to get that guy’s information and see literally whatever he wants this weekend because everything from here on out is because it hit him,” he said. “Can’t say I deserved it, but I tried to hold my attitude together and just keep on focusing on trying one foot in front of the other and I don’t know if that means I got rewarded for that or what but overall, I got very, very fortunate on nine.”

Bro took a 300 yard slice to the chest. Jordan owes him half the cut money.

And the PGA TOUR reps at the tee box didn’t yell fore. And the PGA TOUR reps at the landing area weren’t watching for it or, as I have witnessed, were too old to be able to see it, thus leaving the PGA TOUR open to liability even with the disclaimer on tickets.

Spieth may have needed a miracle to make the cut but will need much more over the weekend, currently tied for 42nd at 144 with Adam Svensson, and Svensson atop the leaderboard at 68 heading into Saturday’s round of play.
