According to a new report from the Oversight Project, a phone allegedly associated with Thomas Matthew Crooks previously pinged in an area near FBI offices.
The Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project tracked the whereabouts of a phone that is believed to be associated with Crooks, attempting to gather as much information as they could. “We began this investigation on the night of the shooting,” said a spokesperson in a statement to Blaze News. “We’ve been working 24/7 since then.”
Using the work and home addresses of Crooks to identify which phone may have belonged to the would-be assassin, the investigators discovered that a number associated with both his address and the nursing home he had worked at in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania had made a trip to Washington D.C. in 2023. More specifically, the phone pinged “seven or eight times” from the Gallery Place complex in one day.
Someone who regularly visited Crooks home and work also visited a building in Washington, DC located in Gallery Place.

The Gallery Place is described as a “mixed-use building” full of retail stores and offices, but the only real spot of interest would be the FBI offices on the upper floors.
It is important to note that the Oversight Project believes that this phone does not belong to Crooks himself, meaning that it instead belongs to someone who visited the would-be assassin at his place of work.
“Every device has an ad ID. It’s kind of like a Social Security number for your cell phone,” explained a spokesman. “It’s unique and it identifies the phone. You can’t erase it. You can refresh and get a new one, but you only have one ID per phone.”
A cell phone was found under the body of Crooks on the day of the failed assassination. Investigators claim they have about nine numbers associated with the young man, but believe at least two belonged directly to him.
A device, also associated with Crooks, is said to have traveled from Bethel Park to Butler on July 4 and July 8, leaving investigators to suggest those trips were made to survey the layout for the Trump rally.

Oversight Project Director Mike Howell explained on X that they are willing to share any information they have with bodies conducting “legitimate investigations” into the shooter, but not the congressional task force.
For those that are tracking this type of data, we identified devices that were located at Crook’s home and his work within the past year.
There were at least 9 devices linked to these AD-IDs

“We are willing to cooperate with legitimate investigations and share further information. For the protection of whistleblowers and our investigation, we will not be sharing further information with the congressional task force due to the connective tissue between that entity and FBI, USSS, and other entities,” read the post.
