A traumatized Pasadena family is considering moving after an elderly, pickaxe-wielding neighbor suddenly appeared at their doorstep Monday evening and began smashing in their windows while two of them were inside.
“I don’t know if we have to leave, but as of now, this is not our safe space. This is a constant reminder of what has happened,” traumatized homeowner Arman Tchoukadrian told the Daily Mail afterward.
What exactly did happen? Around 5:00 pm Monday evening, 65-year-old Beverly Baker allegedly strolled up to the property with a pickaxe in hand and began smashing in windows. All this happened as the homeowner’s mother-in-law was babysitting his baby daughter inside.
Indeed, from the sounds of it, his daughter almost got smashed in as well, as she was reportedly sleeping by a window when the attack began.
“My mother-in-law’s first instinct was to grab the baby. Two seconds later, all you see is huge shards of glass in the bassinet where she would be. It was miracle she reacted fast enough or else my daughter would be dead,” Tchoukadrian later explained to local station KABC.
By the time the authorities arrived, Baker was gone. Thankfully, neighbors reportedly helped track her down, at which point a “30-minute standoff” ensued until Baker was eventually taken into custody.
The police believe she’d never had any contact with the family prior to the incident Monday.
“It doesn’t appear there was any relation between the suspect, Mrs. Baker, and the victims,” Pasadena Police commander Bill Grisafe reportedly said.
He added that Baker appeared to be “suffering some type of mental health crisis.”
“We have no reason, no motive for this,” he said in separate remarks to the Daily Mail.
According to Tchoukadrian, Baker wound up breaking eight windows and costing around $20,000 worth of damage.
The full attack was captured on his Ring camera.
Watch:
Notice how Baker would destroy a window, walk away from the house, return, and then smash in some more windows.
“Everyone’s still shaken up. We built this house from scratch. We put all our savings into this house because it’s a nice neighborhood. We grew up here, and this is how we get welcomed to the neighborhood,” the homeowner told KABC.
Baker was reportedly charged with felony vandalism on Wednesday and will be officially arraigned on Friday. Tchoukadrian is reportedly seeking to file a restraining order against her ASAP.
Speaking with the Daily Mail, he initially expressed fear that the attack may have been racially motivated because of his family’s Armenian ancestry.
He also expressed sympathy for Baker’s apparent mental issues but anger nevertheless over what she’d done.
“That’s no excuse to go attack someone’s family, attack someone’s newborn and ruin their dream home, and ruin their life and sanity,” he said.
This attack comes amid what has been an uptick in crime so severe that even local resident Cenk Uygur, a far-leftist who hosts “The Young Turks,” is planning to vote for Rick Caruso, a recent former Republican, versus longtime Democrat operative and leftist Karen Bass:
LA is a mess. There’s trash all over the roads. Cops don’t respond to calls. It’s close to anarchy here. Is Garcetti already in Mumbai? Is anyone running this city? Karen Bass seems to be saying she’s going to maintain the status quo. She knows how to work the system. No thanks!

Yes. Karen Bass’ main message seems to be that she is an establishment Democrat (no interest) who thinks things in LA are generally fine (they’re not) and will work the system better. The problem is the system. There is nothing but incompetence & corruption here. We need change. https://t.co/7mnQB5d1C0

He’s not alone in feeling this way.
“A wave of brazen crimes targeting the wealthy in Los Angeles has spooked many residents. The spate of daylight robberies, murders and follow-home assaults is upending the mayor’s race in one of America’s most progressive cities,” Bloomberg reported in June.
“Rick Caruso, a billionaire developer with a tough-on-crime stance, has leapt to pole position in the June 7 primary, ahead of Karen Bass, a longtime Democratic congresswoman and community activist. The uptick in lawlessness is also driving well-heeled Angelenos to seek specialized services: panic rooms, armored luxury cars, and firms that scrub websites of personal information that robbers could use,” Bloomberg added.
The rise in violent crime is a testament to the failure of our leaders. We can no longer afford to play politics with people’s lives, it’s time to clean up our streets and enforce policies that will make our city safe for millions of Angelenos. #CarusoCan pic.twitter.com/uBn9c1Sw4C

The crime situation in Los Angeles — not to mention the homelessness and public drug consumption — is so bad that the city is poised to have its first non-far-leftist mayor in decades.
