A political podcaster tore into older, “walking dead” politicians this week for not bowing out of politics despite their clearly declining health.
Podcaster Scott Galloway, host of “The Pivot Podcast,” made the remarks on Friday, two days after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell suddenly froze up while speaking to reporters at a news conference.
He made the remarks during a discussion with co-host Kara Swisher specifically about what happened to McConnell.
Listen:
Swisher, for her part, theorized that perhaps McConnell had suffered a stroke. Galloway responded by saying that sure, that’s possible, but by also stressing that it’s just a symptom of the root cause.
“OK, he may have had a stroke, but I know what’s wrong. I know what he suffers from. He’s too f–king old!” he bellowed.
“I mean, this has gotten so outta control. He’s 81. Dianne Feinstein is … it is insane that she is roaming around the halls of the Senate. Joe Biden is running for president and if he wins — which I believe he will, and I will vote for him, and I will canvas for him — he will be 86 when Marine One leaves the West Lawn. And Nancy Pelosi is 83,” he added.
But he was just getting started.
“The average age of an American is 35. And what do you know? Social Security gets a nine percent cost of living adjustment. Oh, but wait, the child tax credit doesn’t get it,” he said.
“I get it,” Swisher replied, indicating that she understood the point he was making.
“Have we gone insane? D.C. is a cross between The Walking Dead and The Golden Girls. It’s cute and it’s funny. I mean, enough already. Jesus Christ!” Galloway added.
He continued by arguing that the minimum age requirement for running for office should be matched by a maximum age requirement for staying in office.
“If we age gate on the bottom at 25 or 35, why wouldn’t we just age gate and say, ‘Tell you what, at 80, at 80 we’re sending you home,'” he asserted.
The stamina and health of elected leaders has become a major problem in American politics.

Swisher tried pushing at this point by arguing that McConnell’s anomaly of a medical incident doesn’t mean he can’t serve.
“This was a medical incident. And you can be a very vibrant 80-year-old. You know that. You know a lot of 80-year-olds,” she said.
But Galloway wasn’t buying her argument.
“Not really Kara. Not really. You said that, and it’s actually not true. There aren’t a ton of vibrant 80-plus-year-olds who can manage the responsibilities of the Senate,” he said.
Truthfully, Feinstein would have probably been a better example to stick to. She’s notably older, 90, and she’s had FAR more “medical incidents.”

Recall that she recently took a break from Congress after contracting shingles. However, at the time she claimed that was the only condition affecting her. She evidently lied.
“Feinstein’s office confirmed on Thursday that the California Democrat experienced broader health complications following her shingles diagnosis, contradicting an earlier denial from the senator herself,” CNN confirmed in mid-May.
It turned out she’d also suffered from complications from Ramsay Hunt syndrome and encephalitis, according to a statement from the Democrat congresswoman’s spokesperson.
“Encephalitis is inflammation of the brain; it can be caused by many types of infections, but it is known to be a rare complication from shingles. Ramsay Hunt syndrome can occur when a case of shingles affects a facial nerve close to an eye,” CNN notes.
According to CNN chief medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta, encephalitis can cause confusion, lethargy, weakness, seizures, and even death.
“It’s challenging, and then also to know exactly at what point do you say, ‘It is resolved,’ that can be a challenge as well. Young or old, it can be hard, but especially challenging in the elderly,” he said about the condition.
Dovetailing back to Galloway’s remarks, they were incidentally made on the same day that this happened:

“After Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), the chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee asked members to vote on the Defense Appropriations Act, the clerk called on Feinstein to cast her vote. The senator then began reading aloud a statement, instead of saying how she wanted to vote,” according to The Washington Post.
“As Feinstein continued to read her statement, an aide nudged her to vote, while Murray, who was sitting immediately left of Feinstein, told the senior senator to ‘just say, ‘Aye,’’ according to footage. Feinstein then smiled before saying, ‘Aye.'”
