Released surveillance and bodycam footage from the Twin Falls In-N-Out Burger came with a timeline as police lauded those who stepped up to prevent further tragedy.

On August 1, 10 people were shot in and around the In-N-Out near the Twin Falls, Idaho Visitors Center, with three tragically succumbing to their injuries. While it was apparent in the aftermath that bystanders engaged the rampaging killer, new details accompanying footage revealed three good guys with guns were among the “additional acts of heroism.”
During a nearly half-hour press conference, Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks presented the nearly 10-minute-long video timeline of events where the intercession of an off-duty Idaho State Police trooper, former law enforcement officer Austin James, and an armed civilian proved critical in fending off the killer who would later take his own life.
Following an overhead view of the area and a content warning, the video began with footage of the drive-thru payment window at the In-N-Out as a white Honda Civic pulled up. It was then that the killer lowered his car window and fired on In-N-Out employee Ashley Garibay, who later succumbed to her injuries.
Pulling forward to park behind the car ahead of him in the drive-thru, the killer could be seen walking up alongside the vehicle of Christopher Claunch, who was likewise fatally shot.
The video narration then identified James as the third individual shot on scene as he raced toward the sounds of gunfire, encountering the killer in the drive-thru lane. A wounded James could be seen retreating for safety while, as previously reported, his wife and their friend, both emergency room nurses, approached to render aid.
The police report indicated that the killer’s handgun jammed when he returned to the drive-thru window to fire on employees attempting to help Garibay, at which point he retrieved a rifle from his vehicle.
Footage from within the restaurant showed the off-duty state trooper instructing employees to evacuate before he entered the kitchen in search of the threat. An ensuing gunfight between the killer and the trooper through the drive-thru window led to a fourth gunshot victim, seen in the video as a good Samaritan who had followed the law enforcement officer into the kitchen to help.
Three victims were next struck as the killer approached traffic where vehicles were waiting at a red light. It was at that point that the citizen identified as Jordan Salinas could be seen firing at the killer, who fled toward the Tesla charging station.
There, the killer fired upon two more victims, including fatally shooting Dale Schultz.
When police arrived on scene, the off-duty trooper was credited for directing them toward the killer who had made his way to the Twin Falls Visitors Center.
After passing through the building where three people unable to evacuate were sheltering, footage showed the killer outside the visitors center speaking with an employee while others fled down a trail. After a moment, the employee was fired upon before the killer jogged in the direction of those fleeing on the trail.
The poise of the employee was addressed by Hicks, who said, “To that young man, you are a hero. Your courage, your composure, your selflessness in that moment likely gave others the time they needed to escape harm. In the middle of fear and chaos, you thought of others, and that kind of bravery deserves to be acknowledged.”
Near the end of the video, bodycam footage from responding officers showed as one discovered the killer off the trail. As he was ordered to show his hands, the killer reportedly shot himself before falling into the canyon.
“The Twin Falls Police Department is certain that additional acts of heroism and rendering aid to those in need contributed to the saving of lives,” read a statement to conclude the presentation as the investigation remained ongoing with a motive yet to be released.
