President Trump doesn’t mince words on Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize

President Donald Trump did not mince words when asked by a reporter about Barack Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize “for way less than you did,” insisting the former president got the coveted prize “for destroying our country.”

With the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize set to be awarded on Friday in Oslo, Norway, and Trump being among the nominees — more on that below — the question arose during an Oval Office question-and-answer session with the president of Finland on Thursday.

“He got it for doing nothing,” Trump insisted. “Obama got a prize — he didn’t even know what — he got elected and they gave it to Obama for doing absolutely nothing but destroying our country.”

“No, he was not a good president. The worst president was ‘Sleepy Joe Biden.’ But, Obama was not a good president,” he continued. “How many months after he won the election, and then he was given the peace prize? My election was a much more important election.”

Obama, who arguably set back race relations in America by half a century with his divisive “bitter clingers” rhetoric, was gifted the prestigious prize in 2009, eight months after taking office, with the Norwegian Nobel Committee citing “his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.”

It was announced early Friday that Trump lost out on the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, the decision coming on the heels of the first stage of the Trump-orchestrated Israeli-Hamas peace deal being reached. This year’s award was given to Venezuelan democratic opposition leader María Corina Machado.

Interestingly, Obama commented on Trump’s Israel-Hamas peace deal, forgetting one key detail as he advocated for the emptying of the U.S. treasury.

“After two years of unimaginable loss and suffering for Israeli families and the people of Gaza, we should all be encouraged and relieved that an end to the conflict is within sight; that those hostages still being held will be reunited with their families; and that vital aid can start reaching those inside Gaza whose lives have been shattered,” the former president posted on X. “More than that, though, it now falls on Israelis and Palestinians, with the support of the U.S. and the entire world community, to begin the hard task of rebuilding Gaza – and to commit to a process that, by recognizing the common humanity and basic rights of both peoples, can achieve a lasting peace.”

Having failed to mention the man behind the deal, Obama was given an assist by Don Trump Jr., who wrote, “I’ll finish it for you. ‘Thank you, Donald Trump.'”
