Psaki, Jamie Raskin hatch conspiracy theory that GOP’s James Comer was ‘co opted’ by foreign agent

Having seemingly missed the criminal aspect of the investigation into President Joe Biden’s alleged influence peddling, his former press secretary and a congressional point man spun out a new narrative involving Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) and a foreign agent.

There appeared to be no limit to leftist gaslighting over the weekend as corporate media sought to undermine the credibility of the House Oversight Committee’s whistleblower Gal Luft. Following a Justice Department indictment last week, MSNBC’s Jen Psaki and ranking member Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) grew conspiratorial Sunday over what that could mean for a potentially “co-opted” chair, Comer.

“And so how concerned are you of that James Comer, the chairman of the committee, was knowingly, unknowingly, working with, co-opted by a foreign agent?” the former Biden White House spokesperson wondered on “Inside with Jen Psaki.”

In response, Raskin pontificated on the integrity of the committee and began, “I’m just concerned that the House Oversight Committee, which has a very proud history with Congressman Waxman as chair, the great Elijah Cummings of Maryland as chair, is suddenly being compromised in a really serious way.”

“Our legitimacy is being eroded by the tactics adopted by Chairman Comer. They have essentially said we will validate anybody who will say anything about the Bidens, and of course, they haven’t laid a glove on President Biden,” the Democratic representative asserted. “There are real issues that are confronting our people and they’re off on this wild goose chase related to Hunter Biden, Joe Biden and their main witnesses are people who are fleeing justice in America.”

Last week, it was reported that the dual U.S.-Israeli citizen had been indicted by the Justice Department for acting as an unregistered foreign agent with a press release stating in part, “According to the allegations contained in the indictment, for years, Luft conspired with others in an effort to act within the United States to advance the interests of the People’s Republic of China (China) as agents of China-based principals, without registering as foreign agents as required under U.S. law.”

Raskin harped on the potential legitimacy of any testimony Luft might provide, going so far as to send a letter to Comer with Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) that concluded, “In order to protect the Congress’s institutional credibility and to reassure the American people that the CCP is not using Republicans’ investigations as a vehicle to undermine the United States government, we urge you to immediately initiate an investigation into whether the Committee may have been unwittingly duped by Mr. Luft in furtherance of the CCP’s interests, as well as any potentially false statements made by Mr. Luft to Members of Congress or congressional staff. In addition, we request that you immediately provide Committee Democrats with all materials and information provided by Mr. Luft to the Committee.”

Additionally, Oversight Committee Democrats used more MSNBC coverage of Luft’s indictment to dispute credibility, leading the GOP members to fire back with the salient details, “Gal Luft was paid by CEFC, the same CCP-linked company that paid the Bidens.”

“In fact, Hunter claimed his father was in the room when he demanded payment from a CEFC associate. We didn’t choose the Bidens’ associates,” they clapped back. “The Bidens did.”
