Public school librarian defends graphic book on gay sex by comparing it to the Holy Bible

An Alaska public school librarian privately defended a controversial book that featured pornographic content on gay sex, invoking an odd comparison of the smutty text to the Holy Bible and suggesting that it would be a “slippery slope” if the lewd and inappropriate material were banned from where it could be accessed by children.

According to internal documents obtained through a public record request by a concerned parent and reviewed by Fox News Digital, Rachel Gregory who is the librarian for the Polaris K-12 public schools in Anchorage discussed the book “This Book is Gay” with the school’s principal in a 2022 email in which she defended the availability of the material which among other things, instructs impressionable youngsters on the “The Ins and Outs of Gay Sex,” which is a title to one of the chapters in the book by author Juno Dawson.

The principal, Carol Bartholomew “appeared to solicit talking points and information from the librarian after receiving community pushback about the book,” according to the outlet with “This Book is Gay” discussing such risky sexual practices as participating in “saunas and sex parties,” both of which are acknowledged as posing a higher risk of contracting sexually transmissible disease and infections. But Gregory contended that nowhere does the book “encourage unsafe behavior” in the email obtained by the father, Jay McDonald, an outspoken critic of the sexualizing of children in schools.

According to the CDC, “Spaces like back rooms, saunas, sex clubs, or private and public sex parties, where intimate, often anonymous sexual contact with multiple partners occurs—are more likely to spread mpox,” referring to monkeypox which has been renamed so as to not be offensive to homosexuals.

According to the emails, the librarian told the principal, “I am reading it now – it is graphic and blunt in a cartoony, keep it light way – but there is a tremendous amount of good information… The reading level is 14+ and the author constantly discussing safety, safety, safety. On another note-I have the Bible on the shelf, 12 verses refer to Sodomy and sexual behavior, selling your daughter into slavery…. This is such a slippery slope. Let me know what else you need.”

“I fear it will be pulled off the shelves in our ASD libraries,” she added.

“The principal then used the information provided in the email by the librarian to respond to a concerned parent,” Fox News Digital reported.

The book says that pornography is “fine and fun” and lists a porn star as an “inspiratio[n]” as well as gives tips to minors on using the popular homosexual hookup app Grinder, mentioning that it is 18+ but “it happens” that younger people use it, while cautioning minors about sending nude pictures of themselves using the app due to it being “illegal” to traffic in child pornography.

Trusted fact-checker Snopes has acknowledged that it is TRUE that the book “includes a chapter with information and instructions that teaches kids about anal sex, oral sex, and hookup apps.”

“This candid, funny, and uncensored exploration of sexuality and what it’s like to grow up LGBTQ also includes real stories from people across the gender and sexual spectrums, not to mention hilarious illustrations,” the book’s Amazon description reads.
