Liberty Safe, an ostensibly conservative safe manufacturer, is facing growing backlash in the wake of it working with the feds.
The backlash began to surface Monday when the Hodge Twins, two famous conservative commentators, revealed on Instagram that a friend of theirs had been “raided by the feds over J6” last week.
During the raid, the Hodge Twins reported, the FBI “called the manufacturer of [the friend’s] Liberty Gun Safe and got the passcode to get into it too.”

This triggered an initial round of mostly muted backlash. But a day later on Tuesday, Liberty Safe confirmed in a Twitter statement that they had indeed handed over the “access code to a safe” of one of their customers to the FBI.
“On August 30, 2023, Liberty Safe was contacted by the FBI requesting the access code to the safe of an individual for whom they had a warrant to search their property. Our company protocol is to provide access codes to law enforcement if a warrant grants them access to a property,” the statement reads.
“After receiving the request, we received proof of the valid warrant, and only then did we provide them with an access code. Liberty Safe had no knowledge of any of the details surrounding the investigation at the time,” it continues.
The gun safe manufacturer went on to claim that, despite handing over their customer’s safe code, they are still “devoted to protecting the personal property and 2nd amendment rights of our customers and [have] repeatedly denied requests for access codes without a warrant in the past.”

This time the backlash was monumental, with thousands of conservatives rushing to slam Liberty Safe for “betraying” them.

In security, no matter which form, trust is everything.
And you just admitted to betraying the trust of your customers.

I almost pulled the trigger on a high end liberty safe this week.
I’m probably going to order a Fort Knox instead. It will cost a bit more but have better security.
I’m going visit the factory to make sure they don’t give the FEDs a back door.

To their credit, the backlash prompted Liberty Safe to backtrack and announce a new policy via Twitter on Wednesday whereby customers will be granted the opportunity to have their personal safe access codes expunged from the company’s records.
“We listen to our customers and update our products and practices in response to their evolving needs. Today, we are announcing a change that empowers our customers with greater control over their information: Effective immediately, existing customers can visit www.libertysafe.com/pages/combination-removal and fill out the form to have records of their access codes expunged,” the Twitter statement reads.
“In the coming weeks, we will be releasing a feature that gives every new customer this option when registering their safe. This change allows customers to take control of how their information is stored and protected. We understand that many of our customers are willing to assume the responsibility of safeguarding their own combination,” it continues.

This statement definitely initially helped reduce the backlash, up until Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk dropped another truth bomb about Liberty Safe.
“Liberty Safe was sold to Monomoy Capital Partners in 2021, a liberal East Coast investment firm. I pulled the FEC reports on the company and found approximately $400,000 over the last 10 cycles of max donations to Democrats like: Raphael Warnock in GA, John Fetterman in PA, Mandela Barnes in WI, Mark Kelly in AZ,” he tweeted about 20 minutes after Liberty Safe published its statement.
“Liberty Safe’s current CEO, Justin Hillenbrand, was a founding partner of Monomoy and donated $4,600 to Obama for America. And we’re supposed to be surprised they betrayed their customers to the FBI as quickly as humanly possible? Boycott Liberty Safe,” he added.
