Another day, another phony racial uproar, and this time, the ginned-up outrage campaign is being directed at Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for his innocent remarks about NBA players that rational people were easily able to recognize as a compliment to their athletic prowess.
In a recent interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN), the rising GOP star talked about his love of baseball, a game that he excelled at in his youth, which he called a “meritocratic” game versus professional basketball where size and athleticism are often the ticket to success for star players who on smaller teams of five players on the court at a time, are able to dominate opponents on the hardwood through sheer physical presence.
“I think that there’s kind of a place for everybody in a baseball team if you’re willing to work hard, if you’re willing to practice… I kind of thought it was always a very democratic game, a very meritocratic game,” DeSantis told CBN’s David Brody.
“Whereas I kind of viewed basketball as like these guys are just freaks of nature. They’re just incredible athletes. In baseball, you know, you have some guys that might not necessarily be the best athletes, but maybe they’ve got you know that slider that nobody can hit, or they have the skills that allow them to compete at the highest level,” he added.
A clip of DeSantis’ remarks was posted to Twitter by a prolific left-wing troll account and of course, it was racist, because EVERYTHING is racism when it comes to intolerant, thin-skinned “woke” crybabies with their fragile emotions and hair-trigger Twitter fingers, especially in regard to Republicans who have been regularly demonized as white supremacists and Nazis in today’s toxic political environment.

Racial grievance rager Mike Freeman of USA Today, jumped on DeSantis’ remarks to accuse the Sunshine State governor of pushing “racist tropes” in the latest of his unhinged screeds, calling his praise of NBA players “another dog whistle/bullhorn/stadium speaker” for white racists.

Freeman, who among his long list of race-obsessed comments, likened this year’s Super Bowl to Wakanda, the fictional black African ethnostate homeland of the “Black Panther” in the Marvel comics movie franchise, added that DeSantis is playing “dumb” to appeal to “a base that likes to see black Americans denigrated. And make no mistake, DeSantis bringing up the NBA, when not asked about it, was strategic.”
He also accused DeSantis of being “one of the most prominent anti-black politicians alive,” a Big Lie that’s being pushed by the political left which also dishonestly portrayed the Florida parental rights law to keep groomers away from kids in classrooms as being anti-gay, as well as the book banning hoax that has fueled the tiresome comparisons to Der Führer.
Also tossing about accusations of racism was the black news and views website The Root, which said that DeSantis “decided to obviously disparage the mostly black league by relying on a disgustingly racist trope; it’s one that has been around for centuries and reduces the value of black people to their bodies.”
“This is racism. For those who want me to soften it up, this is very clearly coded racial bias,” tweeted University of Cincinnati assistant professor of Sports Administration Wayne Black, one of many who flooded the zone on Twitter with their ridiculous accusations that DeSantis is a racist.
Freeman couldn’t be personally called to task for his asinine take because he has locked down his Twitter account but Outkick’s Bobby Burack slam-dunked USA Today’s resident racial grievance monger in a scorching column of his own.
“Freeman embodies the problematic nature of an outlet deploying a writer only to screech about racism. There is not enough racism to screech over, forcing tools like Freeman to manufacture examples,” he wrote. “DeSantis is correct in that basketball is a game of athleticism. Baseball is less so. Turn on both the NBA and MLB, no one can dispute that claim… Freeman only sees color. He views every story and comments through a racial lens. Race permeates every thought he publicizes.”
