Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) took to X with a rather unpopular take on the vice president’s now-viral cartel tweets.
On Tuesday, President Donald Trump’s administration announced that it successfully carried out a “kinetic strike against positively identified Tren de Aragua Narcoterrorists,” which ultimately resulted in a vessel being sunk. Four days later, on Saturday, Vice President JD Vance hopped on X to defend the decision to take out the boat and everyone on board using the United States military, which had become a subject of contention among critics of the strike.
Look:
Killing cartel members who poison our fellow citizens is the highest and best use of our military.

“Killing cartel members who poison our fellow citizens is the highest and best use of our military,” he wrote in his unapologetic post.
Among the people who had a problem with this was Paul, who said the scenario resembled ‘To Kill A Mockingbird’ and created a slippery slope of eliminating people without due process.
JD “I don’t give a shit” Vance says killing people he accuses of a crime is the “highest and best use of the military.”
Did he ever read To Kill a Mockingbird?
Did he ever wonder what might happen if the accused were immediately executed without trial or representation??… https://t.co/VdnJbZkGfS

“JD ‘I don’t give a s**t’ Vance says killing people he accuses of a crime is the ‘highest and best use of the military.’ Did he ever read To Kill a Mockingbird? Did he ever wonder what might happen if the accused were immediately executed without trial or representation?? What a despicable and thoughtless sentiment it is to glorify killing someone without a trial,” Paul said.
This take didn’t go over well among those who view the strike as a positive act:

All I will say is cartel money runs deep in Congress. All of Congress needs to be audited for any potential connections.

Do you believe Letters of Marques and Reprisal are unconstitutional because there is no due process for pirates?

Do we think every Barbary pirate got a trial??
