Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) locked horns with NBC’s Chuck Todd on Sunday on “Meet the Press” over the debt ceiling negotiations and the 87,000 IRS agents President Biden has deployed to milk every dollar he can from Americans and small businesses to pay for his insane spending spree.
“Most Americans pay taxes & do it honorably. When you add 87,000 IRS agents it’s not to go after the rich, it’s to go after middle class families & small business owners. What Biden wants to do is find every possible dollar to pay for his radical spending. Why would WE do that?” Donalds tweeted after the confrontation with Todd.
During the interview, Todd just couldn’t resist mentioning former President Trump, addressing his comments on debt negotiations in 2019. Donalds clapped back that when Trump was negotiating the debt ceiling with Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), “Our economy was thriving” and “Our debt levels were not where they are right now.”
“Now you have $32 trillion on the credit card and all House Republicans are saying is let’s go back to pre-pandemic spending, that’s commonsense stuff,” Donalds asserted.
Most Americans pay taxes & do it honorably.
When you add 87,000 IRS agents it's not to go after the rich, it's to go after middle class families & small business owners.

Biden MUST work with us. He keeps asking for a clean debt ceiling but that's DOA.
I'm NOT comfortable with a debt limit breach.
This all should've been handled MONTHS ago.
WE passed our Limit Save Grow Act while Schumer & Biden have ignored us & been derelict in their duty. pic.twitter.com/N6qtyX5F27

“They want fewer IRS agents and fewer attempts to properly get tax receipts into the federal government’s coffers. I have never understood the resistance of extra IRS agents unless you knowingly cheat on your taxes,” Todd said, seemingly accusing conservatives of being tax cheats for not wanting a jack-booted government agency wringing every penny from Americans.
Donalds pushed back, “That’s salacious, and you know that.”
“Most Americans by far pay their taxes and do it honorably, what House Republicans, frankly the Republican Party, is concerned about is having IRS agents go after middle-class families and small business owners. When you have that many more agents, it’s not to go after the rich. It’s to go after middle class. That’s what it’s for,” Donalds declared.
Todd speciously reiterated that “if you are paying what you are supposed to pay then you should have nothing to fear.”
“You would make the assumption that IRS audits are up, that they’re putting more liens on the American people. That’s not true. That data is not there. All Joe Biden is trying to find out of every possible nickel out of every couch of every American to pay for his spending,” Donalds correctly concluded, incensing Todd even further.

“Can I be blunt with you? We’re not really sure what deal is even on the table. The White House is not serious. They came up with a proposal to spend another $30 billion more than they already wanted to spend,” Donalds told Todd during the interview.
We’re not even sure what WH deal is on the table.
They're not serious & aren't looking at the fiscal reality of our country.
The ONLY debt ceiling plan right now is OURS & the REAL question is: What's Schumer doing?
So far, neither Schumer nor Biden have done ANY work AT ALL. pic.twitter.com/wyhz9HiCPo

The debt ceiling negotiations are going nowhere fast and time is running out. Republicans sanely want spending cuts as part of the negotiations and Democrats and Biden refuse to budge at all on the issue.
“Now, the president, even though he was overseas, thought to change places… I don’t understand that. For 97 days he ignored me. We were in a good place. He goes overseas, and now he wants to change the debate,” House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) told Maria Bartiromo on Sunday. “That’s not healthy. We still have to pass a bill before the House and the Senate, and we only have 11 days to go.”

“The president has really shifted right after the more progressive socialist wing of the party stood up and says they want to spend more money,” he noted. “He’s now bringing something to the table that everyone said was off the table. It seems as though he wants default more than he wants a deal. That’s not where I’m at, and the one thing you know… about me, Maria, I will never give up.”
I literally asked the president: "What is the number? How much debt must America have before you say, 'let's stop borrowing from China?'" pic.twitter.com/nAd1wMtDOw

During Biden’s press conference in Japan at the G-7 Summit, he accused “MAGA Republicans” of stalemating debt talks, citing it as an effort to derail his 2024 re-election effort which has nothing to do with it in the least.
“On the merits, based on what I’ve offered, I would be blameless,” Biden proclaimed, attempting to exonerate himself if there is a default. “On the politics of it, no one would be blameless. And by the way, that’s one of the, one of the things some [people] are contemplating. Well, I gotta be careful here. I think there are some MAGA Republicans in the House who know the damage that it would do to the economy and because I am president, and presidents are responsible for everything, Biden would take the blame. And that’s the one way to make sure Biden’s not re-elected.”
Watch: Biden spars with Fox’s Peter Doocy: “Of course no one will blame me” if there’s a debt ceiling breach. “I know you won’t. You’ll be saying ‘Biden did a wonderful job.’.. On the merits, based on what I’ve offered, I would be blameless.” pic.twitter.com/ipcWEnqlJW

Talks resume on Monday between McCarthy and Biden. The president is now threatening he has the power to invoke the 14th Amendment to bypass Republicans on the debt ceiling. That will be challenged in the Supreme Court since it is blatantly unconstitutional.
The 14th Amendment to the Constitution states, “Section 4. The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned. But neither the United States nor any state shall assume or pay any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or any claim for the loss or emancipation of any slave; but all such debts, obligations, and claims shall be held illegal and void.”
