Republicans tear into Dr. Fauci like never before: He did not ‘get it all wrong’ – he lied, people died

Republicans reacted to a bombshell report that the COVID pandemic most likely originated from a leak at a Chinese lab and not a bat at a wet market, a theory that was previously denounced as a conspiracy theory and repeatedly scoffed at by Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, the controversial face of the federal government’s response to the once-in-a-lifetime public health crisis.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the U.S. Energy Department has concluded that the virus that led to unprecedented measures including lockdowns and mask and vaccine mandates was probably unleashed due to a leak at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, according to a classified intelligence report that was recently provided to the Biden White House and members of Congress.

The stunning shift has once again thrust Fauci into the spotlight, two months after the elfin career bureaucrat hung up his white coat after decades of heading up the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) where he had been ensconced since President Ronald Reagan’s first term in office.

On Monday, the 82-year-old Fauci downplayed the development that has rocked the Biden regime, saying that Americans need to have an “open mind to all possibilities” while at the same time, throwing shade at the WSJ report, telling the Boston Globe that “we may never know” the origins of the virus.

“I don’t see any data for a lab leak,” Fauci told the paper, ‘That doesn’t mean it couldn’t have happened.”

Among GOP lawmakers who blasted Joe Biden’s former top medical adviser and hero of the so-called Resistance was Senator Ted Cruz, a frequent critic of the diminutive doomsayer who talked about the damage to the government’s credibility that Fauci caused with Fox News host Sean Hannity.

“There is no bureaucrat in the history of our country who has done more damage to the United States than Dr. Anthony Fauci,” the Texas Republican said during an appearance on Monday’s edition of “Hannity.”

“Number one, his recommendations resulted in shutdowns that hurt tens of millions of kids, destroyed millions of jobs, millions of small businesses, and his willingness to set aside science, to set aside data, and to be purely political, there has been nothing in our lifetimes that has done more to damage the credibility of government scientists or doctors than Dr. Anthony Fauci,” he said.

Cruz’s GOP colleagues also had strong words for the retired bureaucrat.

“Anthony Fauci lied, and millions of people died,” tweeted Senator Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee.

“Remember when I asked Dr. Fauci how he knew that China didn’t lie to him and use American money for gain-of-function research in Wuhan?” Sen. John Kennedy of Louisiana asked. “Fauci told me, ‘you never know.’ Maybe we’re getting closer to knowing.”

“Fauci lied. Accountability is coming,” promised GOP Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York.

“Dr. Fauci sought the limelight on the backs of the American people, their businesses, education, & quality of life,” tweeted Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) of Fauci’s celebrity stardom. “From magazine covers, Sunday shows, & elitist receptions, he ignored the science to clench power & clout. I have many questions, & I look forward to asking them.”

Kelley Paul, the wife of Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul who has clashed with Fauci, tweeted out the doctor’s own words of one of his lies during congressional testimony to her husband.

“’Senator Paul, with all due respect, you are entirely and completely incorrect. The NIH has not ever and does not now fund gain of function research in the Wuhan Institute of Virology.’”

“Fauci lied. He knew NIH and NIAID money was sent to Wuhan via intermediary EcoHealth Alliance,” she added.

“It’s been lie after lie, misinformation after misinformation. And it’s about time we crack this egg open and really find what’s actually going on,” Rep. Van Drew (R-N.J.) said during a Monday appearance on “Fox and Friends First,” speaking of the probe being led by his caucus.

Others also piled onto Fauci after the Department of Energy’s conclusions laid bare his deceptiveness.

“There are now tens of millions if not hundreds of millions of Americans that are not gonna believe the next thing a scientist or doctor working for the government says, and that’s dangerous,” Sen. Cruz told Hannity. “If God forbid, we have another pandemic, let’s say we have something like Ebola that has massively high fatality rates, I want us to be able to have scientists and doctors that can give us advice on how to keep our families safe and yet Fauci was so willing to listen to the teacher’s unions, so willing to listen to the Biden White House, so willing to put politics above science, that he’s done enormous damage to the credibility of the government doctors.”

“I think that’s an incredible disservice to the country,” he said.
