Restaurant stirs the pot with message to ‘entitled and privileged diners’

A restaurant’s message to finicky customers who have special demands for the establishment’s kitchen crew has drawn a strong reaction from those who are both outraged and supportive of the unique statement.

Images of the sign posted to the eatery’s door serves notice that modified orders are not a house specialty and advises that “entitled” diners who can’t accept the food the way that it is cooked should consider seeking out another restaurant that is more accommodating to their special needs.

According to the sign, which caught the attention of the Daily Mail, “Are you one of the small group of people who have been living an entitled and privileged life? Then you have been very lucky! If you are one of the few who like to substitute, modify, or customize meals, etc., then please read on.”

“Maybe your mother has taken the onions out of your salad, put the dressing on the side, or substitute your vegetables,” the sign reads. “Here, however, all meals are served precisely the way we prepare them. We do not offer custom meals. Remember; we are not your mother, and we definitely are not genies that will make your every wish come true.”

The restaurant offers suggestions to the entitled and privileged people who are unwilling to accept the food off the menu including hiring a private chef, cooking their own food, finding somewhere where the staff is willing to accommodate their requests, or accepting the food as the chef intends it to be cooked.

“We have been cooking for almost 50 years,” write Chef Jozef and Nathalie. “We have many kind, friendly, people, acquaintances, and families that have been coming for many decades. So, look around, it is a pleasure to see their happy smiles and provide them with our best food possible.”

The message to customers also included an “allergy alert” advising customers who have allergies to eat elsewhere for their own safety and that “we do not have the qualifications to provide you with the service you require.”

The pot-stirring sign was posted to Facebook where users served up their opinions.

“Amen, the public is not always right. And actually most of the time they’re not. This establishment is well within their right to post this. Just eat at home if you have food allergies. Or go to a restaurant that specialises in these…issues,” wrote one user.

“You know from the very start how things are. It’s one restaurant. If you don’t like it, there are so many others you can go to instead… No need to have a sook. Just go elsewhere. Some of us would enjoy a restaurant like this,” said another.

“Oh I wish more places did that!” said one user while another wrote, “Love them! I’ll frequent this place.”

Others didn’t take kindly to the “rude” and “snarky” notice.

“sooooo woulda yall pass a health code inspection if someone were to leave an anonymous complaint,” a Facebook user wrote in what seems to be a veiled threat. “bc if you cant guarantee zero cross contamination that is going against health and safety codes of restaurants. i hope you get a law suit one day.”

“I am just glad I don’t have deadly food allergies. If they can’t leave the cheese off of something or feta off of a salad, then why would I bother with them? It isn’t worth the rash and being unable to sleep while I itch all night after, and I already take antihistamines daily. I can’t take more or risk tachycardia. Thank you for the warning. Of course, I won’t bother,” a user critical of the perceived insensitivity to allergy sufferers wrote.

“If you are not able or willing to provide what your guests need or even give service, it might seem better to be honest but this message is rude and disgusting,” wrote another user. “Don’t seek employment in service roles and then complain.”

“Screw those people. I go out to dinner for my pleasure and enjoyment. It might be their restaurant, but it is my money and I will spend where I am treated best,” said a potential customer.
