In a bit of news that will likely bring great joy to supporters of former President Donald J. Trump, an eatery that became infamous for kicking out former White House press secretary Sarah Sanders and her family is closing its doors.
The Red Hen restaurant in Lexington, Virginia which some have dubbed “The Commie Cluck” will be shutting its doors at the end of the year and will reopen in 2024 under a new name, a likely attempt at rebranding after the “woke” ownership and overly sensitive staff alienated a large chunk of its local customer base over the despicable treatment of Sanders and her kids in the 2018 incident.

According to a notice published in Wednesday’s edition of the local Lexington paper the News-Gazette, “The owners of the Red Hen restaurant in downtown Lexington have announced that they will cease operations at the end of the year and reopen in the same location early in 2024 under a new name with a new dining concept.“We’ve had 15 very memorable years offering farm-to-table fine dining …”
Sanders, who is now the Republican governor of Arkansas, was the target of constant abuse from the press corps and from leftists in general but what went down at the Red Hen was a new low for the so-called anti-Trump resistance.
On Friday night June 22, 2018, owner Stephanie Wilkinson was summoned from her home by gay employees who were triggered when Sanders walked in and placed a distress call to their boss. Wilkinson then got into her vehicle and drove like a proverbial bat out of hell to arrive just in time to oust her customers while their appetizers were still hot.
The left-wing mob exploded in delight and, at the time, many promised to patronize the pricey small restaurant even though they didn’t live anywhere near it, nor likely had the economic means to dine anywhere other than their local McDonald’s.
“Last night I was told by the owner of Red Hen in Lexington, VA to leave because I work for @POTUS and I politely left. Her actions say far more about her than about me. I always do my best to treat people, including those I disagree with, respectfully and will continue to do so.” Sanders wrote on Twitter in the aftermath of the incident.
Sanders’ then-boss, former President Donald J. Trump blasted the Red Hen in a post to Twitter, which has since been renamed X.
The Red Hen Restaurant should focus more on cleaning its filthy canopies, doors and windows (badly needs a paint job) rather than refusing to serve a fine person like Sarah Huckabee Sanders. I always had a rule, if a restaurant is dirty on the outside, it is dirty on the inside!

“I have a business, and I want the business to thrive,” Wilkinson told The Washington Post, justifying her disgusting treatment of Sanders and her family. “This feels like the moment in our democracy when people have to make uncomfortable actions and decisions to uphold their morals.”
“After 15 years as a favorite dining spot for fans of chef-driven, award-winning cuisine served in an intimate, historic venue, the Red Hen team is switching things up,” the eatery announced on its Facebook page. “The Red Hen will offer its final service on December 31, 2023.”
“The new venture will bring to life a vision that’s been simmering behind the scenes for a while,” the restaurant added.
