Riley Gaines is the latest to offer NYC mayoral hopeful Zohran Mamdani some advice on his gym routine.
During a Men’s Day event in Brooklyn on Saturday, Mamdani popped by a bench press to show off his athleticism. At least, that was probably his intention. In reality, he “was unable to bench 135 pounds by himself.”

I’m not saying we should judge politicians for how much they can bench but I’m absolutely judging a politician for how much he can bench https://t.co/IkgsxegoQ2

“I’m not saying we should judge politicians for how much they can bench but I’m absolutely judging a politician for how much he can bench,” Gaines wrote.
In another post, she used a video of herself benching 165lbs with ease to prove that Mamdani should not have struggled with the weight.
165lb relatively easy reps on bench when I weighed 130lbs

Even current New York City Mayor Eric Adams took the time to flex on “Mamscrawny” with a video of himself lifting at the same event. In it, Adams can be seen effortlessly cranking out multiple reps without needing the spotter’s help.
64 vs. 33. A lifetime of hard work vs. a silver spoon. The results speak for themselves.
The weight of the job is too heavy for “Mamscrawny.” The only thing he can lift is your taxes. pic.twitter.com/HR6fDPKn0B

“64 vs. 33. A lifetime of hard work vs. a silver spoon. The results speak for themselves. The weight of the job is too heavy for ‘Mamscrawny.’ The only thing he can lift is your taxes,” the cocky mayor wrote.
Former Governor Andrew Cuomo got his own shot in, saying “This guy can’t bench his own body weight, let alone carry the weight of leading the most important city in the world.”
X users provided additional commentary:
Appropriate for a socialist that someone else had to handle the weight Mamdani couldn’t.

Shouldn’t our leaders be role models?
I think they should.

I think we should judge politicians by how much they can bench. At least it would be an unspinnable standard.

If someone filmed him at the gym I would have nothing to say, but if he chose to display his failure in public he’s fair game. Surely he knew he couldn’t do it?
