Ron Johnson: Picture FBI is trying to paint around assassination attempt ‘makes no sense whatsoever’

Sen. Ron Johnson slammed the FBI on Tuesday for trying to portray Trump would-be-assassination suspect Thomas Crooks as some sort of right-winger.

Appearing on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle,” he said outright that this narrative concocted by the FBI is trash.

“They’re trying to paint this as a MAGA Republican trying to take out, I guess, the MAGA President,” he said. “It makes no sense whatsoever, but that’s why you can’t trust the FBI.”

His remarks came hours after Deputy FBI Director Paul Abbate testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee that the agency had located a Gab social media account belonging to Crooks containing antisemitic and anti-immigrant content.

The “anti-immigrant” part triggered accusations on social media that Crooks had been a so-called MAGA extremist.

But according to Gab founder Andrew Torba, there’s a big problem with this narrative. In a tweet published sometime after the hearing Tuesday afternoon, he claimed that Crooks’ account had in fact contained pro-immigration and pro-Biden content.

“[T]he account … was, UNEQUIVOCALLY, pro-Biden and in particular pro-Biden’s immigration policy,” he wrote. “To the best of Gab’s knowledge, as of 2021, Crooks was a pro-lockdown, pro-immigration, left-wing Joe Biden supporter.”

But there’s more.

“The account was last active on the site in 2021,” Torba continued in another post. “As far as we are aware, the account did not use the site to send any direct messages. He posted on the site nine (9) times total.”

“While the account made very few posts on the site, the majority of them were in support of President Biden. A number of posts in particular expressed support for President Biden’s COVID lockdowns, border policies, and executive orders,” he added.

This time he included receipts.

In one Gab message that Crooks posted on Feb. 3rd, he defended President Joe Biden’s immigration policies and illegal migration itself.

“Biden executive orders don’t incentivize human trafficking as human traffickers aren’t interested in citizenships,” he falsely claimed. “Likewise the majority of illegal immigrants are not criminals and in fact some studies (such as the one linked below) show lower rates of crime committed by these individuals.”

The false, BS talking points were straight out of the Democrats’ playbook.

In a post published on Feb. 4th, 2021, he mocked another Gab user for rightly predicting that disgraced former GOP Rep. Liz Cheney would lose her 2022 primary election.

“Didn’t you also think Biden would lose in a landslide yeah I would not be very confident in your election predictions,” Crooks cockily and arrogantly wrote back.

It appears, for all intents and purposes, that the FBI therefore lied when it claimed Crooks’ account contained anti-immigrant content. Critics for their part aren’t remotely surprised.
