Russia and China flex nuclear-capable bombers in joint military exercise while Biden’s in Japan

President Joe Biden was touted as a foreign policy expert on the campaign trail leading into the 2020 presidential election. But after failing to deter a Russian invasion of Ukraine and displaying weakness and incoherence to adversaries and allies alike, serious concerns about a greater conflict involving China are mounting, and the threat could be nuclear.

Biden kicked off a tour of Southeast Asia over the weekend, making a stop in South Korea before heading to Japan where he met with Quad leaders to discuss America’s commitment to the Indo-Pacific. While meeting with Prime Ministers Anthony Albanese (Australia), Narendra Modi (India), and Fumio Kishida (Japan) a separate meeting belied the safety of the region Biden tried to impart.

While gathering in Tokyo, nuclear-capable bombers from Russia and China participated in a joint exercise, according to the report of a senior administration official to Fox News.

“The exercise shows that China is continuing its military cooperation with Russia in the Indo-Pacific even as Russia brutalizes Ukraine,” the official explained. “It also shows that Russia will stand with China in the East and South China Seas, not with other Indo-Pacific states.”

Those bombers “traversed the Sea of Japan and continued through the East China Sea and the Philippine Sea,” the official explained.

The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed on Telegram that “a group of Tu-95ms Strategic Missile Carriers of the Russian Aerospace Forces and Xian H-6 Strategic Bombers of the [Chinese] Air Force conducted air patrol over the waters of the Sea of Japan and the East China Sea.”

In a statement geared toward the overall failings of Biden, former President Donald Trump expressed on Truth Social how Biden’s rhetoric has brought America to the brink of a nuclear war.

“I never thought, in my wildest imagination, that the United States would be involved in a Nuclear War,” he wrote. “Now, however, because of our leaders rhetoric and very poor choice of words, it is perhaps more likely to happen than not. Russia/Ukraine would NEVER have happened under a TRUMP Administration. Now there are fewer cards to play, but still very playable. China up next?”

The statement is likely linked to Biden’s recent gaffe the White House walked back where he replied “yes” as to whether or not the United States would be involved militarily to defend Taiwan against an invasion from China.

“Look, here’s the situation,” the president had said. “We agree with the One China policy, but the idea that to be taken by force, just taken by force, is just not appropriate. It will dislocate the entire region and be another action similar to what happened in Ukraine.”

Of the joint exercise between Russia and China, the official attempted to assure that it was not in response to Biden’s recent remark stating, “Joint strategic bomber exercises such as this one cannot be planned quickly and was likely planned well in advance by both countries. To further demonstrate just how seriously China considers its military partnership with Russia, Chinese naval vessels likely participated in this joint exercise.”

However, that should pose little comfort as it further demonstrates the ongoing view from the foreign powers that Biden cannot stop them from doing as they please. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, over the course of the 13-hour flight, “At certain stages of the route, the strategic missile carriers were escorted by F-2 of the South Korean Air Force and F-15 of the Japanese Air Force,” but there were, “no violations of foreign airspace.”

As Trump has restated recently, “This is the single most dangerous time for our country in history – far more dangerous than World War I or World War II. And that’s because of the power of nuclear weapons.”
