Russia, Russia, Russia: Biden-Harris admin to go full circle, accuse Kremlin of interfering in 2024 election

President Joe Biden’s administration is set to point an accusing finger at Russia on Wednesday, calling out the nation’s continued efforts to influence the 2024 U.S. election.

In what many see as a setup to regurgitate the same propaganda in case of a loss at the ballot box in November, Democrats are preparing the Russia, Russia, Russia narrative ahead of the game.

Citing “six sources familiar with the matter,” CNN reported that the White House will publicly condemn the Kremlin’s actions and the Department of Justice will reportedly be announcing “law enforcement action targeting the covert Russian campaign.”

“RT, the Russian state media network, is a major focus of the US announcement, the sources said. US officials see the Russian outlet as a key piece of Kremlin propaganda efforts,” CNN reported. “The Russian disinformation operation is being laundered through both Americans and non-American voices, four of the sources said.”

Senior law enforcement leaders, including FBI Director Christopher Wray, are expected to attend a DOJ Election Threats Task Force meeting Wednesday hosted by Attorney General Merrick Garland. Sources told CNN that the Social Design Agency will also be a target of Wednesday’s announcements, as the Russian company has already been sanctioned by the Treasury Department for alleged fake news sites being run in Europe on behalf of Russia.

According to CNN:

Formerly known as Russia Today, RT runs television and online platforms around the world that advance the Kremlin’s agenda. The Justice Department forced RT America to register as a foreign agent in 2017 after US intelligence officials concluded that the media outlet contributed to Russian efforts to meddle in the 2016 election.

Wednesday’s expected announcements would be the second major effort by the Biden administration to blunt RT’s influence in as many months.

US officials are reportedly on heightened alert for any interference by Iran or China. Hackers linked to the Iranian government accessed the Trump campaign in June and shared stolen information and documents with the media. China also employs online accounts to allegedly target U.S. voters though, in a meeting last November, Chinese leader Xi Jinping told Biden they would not interfere in the US presidential election.

The director of the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, Jen Easterly, told reporters this week that “election infrastructure has never been more secure.”

CNN noted that RT has “previously ridiculed US allegations that it acts as a Russian influence agent.”

Leon Panetta, who served as President Barack Obama’s Secretary of Defense and White House Chief of Staff under President Bill Clinton, is “glad the administration is bringing this to the attention” of the public.

“This is no surprise,” he told CNN. “Going back to when Putin was KGB, his primary goal was to undermine the United States of America and weaken our democracy. They are constantly focused on that goal.”

“They did the same thing with a very bold cyber-attack on our election system,” Panetta said of RT’s alleged efforts to influence the election. “They did it in 2020 and they’re now doing it in 2024.”

Wednesday’s “Breaking News” was delivered by none other than CNN’s Jim Acosta, which only added to the social media mockery.
