San Francisco Dem who backed ‘Defund the Police’ now ‘begging’ for more cops amid crime wave

San Francisco City Supervisor Hillary Ronen hypocritically begged last week for more police officers as crime skyrockets out of control, especially in her district, after previously calling for the police to be defunded.

On March 15, Ronen spoke during a Budget and Appropriations Committee meeting and literally begged the San Francisco Police Department to increase police presence in her district instead of spending overtime on an anti-retail theft program, according to Fox News Digital.

“I’ve been begging this department to give the Mission what it deserves in terms of police presence all year long,” Ronen asserted. “And I have been told time and time and time and time again there are no officers that we can send to Mission.”

“It hurts and I feel betrayed by the department. I feel betrayed by the mayor. I feel betrayed by the priorities of the city. It is not this board of supervisors’ priorities — we want our residents safe! We don’t want our residents getting shot, getting assaulted, getting killed — because in the Mission, chief, it’s not theft. In the Mission people are getting shot and killed! … In the Mission people are dying!” she disingenuously claimed.

Her calls for stripping police funds were made in 2020. Ronen, 47, was elected in 2017 and represents San Francisco’s District 9 on the 11-member city board of supervisors. The Berkeley Law graduate was re-elected in November 2020.

Ronen was a big supporter of George Soros-backed leftist district attorney, Chesa Boudin, who had a penchant for setting criminals free. Crime exploded during his time in office. His parents were members of the violent terroristic Weather Underground.

In 2016, Ronen campaigned on making “police part of our community.” She flip-flopped in 2020, jumping on the Black Lives Matter bandwagon and aggressively calling for defunding the police. During that period, while rioters ran wild in the city, Democrat Mayor London Breed proposed a $35 million cut from the San Francisco Police Department’s budget over two years. According to Mission Local, the 2.6% cut wasn’t enough for Ronen.

In fact, Ronen was so incensed by the proposed reduction she accused it of being “a slap in the face,” contending, “We can’t just give lip service to this time and this movement.”

She took it even further by saying that San Francisco should get “police out of the business of responding to homeless people for being homeless.” Ronen also wanted law enforcement out of public schools and rallied to reconsider having mounted police officers, period.

The supervisor had the nerve to assert that the police department was a “system that is rotten to its core.”

Ronen doubled down in her hatred of the police on Twitter at the time, declaring, “I want to make it clear that I believe strongly in defunding the police and reducing the number of officers on our force. For decades we’ve had an imbalance in our city’s budget, with hundreds of millions of dollars going to SFPD to have them do work they are not qualified to do.”

Breed way outdid her original call for defunding the police and diverted $120 million from the police and sheriff’s departments in 2020, giving Ronen exactly what she wanted according to Mission Local.

“The number of full-duty SFPD officers is at 1,514 as of last week, down from 1,840 in 2019 and 1,872 in 2017,” TheBlaze reported.

The San Francisco District Attorney’s Office claimed that in 2022, only 3.9% of the 58,681 reported incidents that occurred resulted in an arrest.

Neighborhood Watch’s crime index shows that San Francisco scores a 2 out of 100, with 100 being the safest. A resident has a 1 in 186 chance of becoming a violent crime victim in the city. They have a 1 in 20 chance of becoming a property crime victim according to TheBlaze.

The San Francisco Police Department reported that between Jan. 1 and March 12, there were 66 reports of arson; 5,505 reports of larceny-theft; 1,062 burglary reports; 428 assaults; 525 robberies; 39 rapes; 1,123 motor vehicle thefts; and 9 murders.

TheBlaze further reported, “Mission, Bayview, and Ingleside, all overseen by Ronen, accounted for 41% of arson incidents in the city during that time period; 18% of the larceny thefts; 29.8% of burglaries; 38% of assaults; 37% of robberies; 36% of rapes; 50% of motor vehicle thefts; and 66% of murders. At least half of San Francisco’s reports of human trafficking this year have also taken place in Ronen’s district.”

Ronen’s district is ranked as one of the “most dangerous areas in San Francisco,” particularly after dark, according to Only In Your State.

Along with attacking the police, as if being defunded was their fault, Ronen is hard at work attempting to secure race-based reparations to the tune of $5 million for select black residents. She also wants to cancel their debt and guarantee them an income.
