Rocket fire in Israel sent a congressional delegation led by New York Sen. Chuck Schumer (D) seeking cover ahead of a meeting with the Israeli prime minister.
A bipartisan show of support for the recently attacked nation resulted in a firsthand bipartisan experience in empathy for the Senate leader and at least one other member of Congress Sunday while traveling in Tel Aviv, Israel.
Surrounded by staffers, both Schumer and Utah. Sen. Mitt Romney (R) could be seen waiting out a reported attack under the caption, “While in Tel Aviv today, our delegation was rushed to a shelter to wait out rockets sent by Hamas. It shows you what Israelis have to go through. We must provide Israel with the support required to defend itself.”

The incident had occurred hours after the delegation had met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog and ahead of a sit down with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, opposition leader Benny Gantz and other representatives of the unified wartime government.

Other members of the bipartisan delegation affirming America’s commitment and seeking to determine what resources Israel most needed were Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly (D), Nevada Sen. Jacky Rosen (D) and Louisiana Sen. Bill Cassidy (R) who had joined Schumer on his recent delegation to China.
The experience seeking cover from rockets came on the heels of a mob of protesters descending on the senator’s Brooklyn residence Friday night as he had reportedly joined his family for Shabbat dinner before departing for Israel.
Hundreds were said to have gathered in response to a call to action at Schumer’s home issued by the far-left group Jewish Voice for Peace as they demanded a ceasefire as Israel responded to the terrorist attack that slaughtered more than 1,300 men, women and children.
“Stop the genocide against Palestinians in Gaza,” the protesters demanded before police began arresting many who had assembled.
During a Friday news conference from New York City before departing with the delegation, Schumer had stated, “We’re gonna get Israel everything it needs — Iron Dome, all the other needs, both military and humanitarian. And we’re going to do everything we can and I’m going to urge everyone, everyone in the American government to bring back the hostages, particularly our American hostages.”
Speaking Sunday evening in Tel Aviv, Schumer remarked, “You see the pictures of the little children and I think what if this happened to my four-year-old grandson.”
Commenting on how the recent attack reminded him of the experiences shared by his family and millions of other families during the Holocaust, the senator affirmed, “As the first Jewish majority leader, and the highest ranking Jewish elected official, I felt I had to be here…At this moment we say to Israel, you are not alone.”
The delegation’s presence in Israel came the day after Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian had warned that if the retaliatory strikes against Hamas in Gaza weren’t stopped then Hezbollah was prepared to engage with an attack of their own that would “cause a huge earthquake in the Zionist entity.”
