Secret Service agent assigned to Jill Biden reportedly shoots himself – in the butt

A Secret Service agent assigned to former first lady Jill Biden reportedly accidentally shot himself in the butt on Friday.

The agent, a newbie who just started the job, was traveling in an SUV behind Biden’s SUV when they all arrived at the Philadelphia International Airport, according to Susan Crabtree of RealClearPolitics.

As the agents then exited the SUVs to escort Biden through the airport, the unnamed agent who shot himself realized he’d forgotten his cell phone and rushed back to the SUV he’d been riding in.

When he reached the SUV, his pistol fell out of his holster.

“He grabbed his pistol quickly and negligently fired it as he was trying to put it back in the holster,” according to Crabtree. “The agent shot his butt cheek. He went to the hospital where he is recovering and is expected to be released later today.”

The injured agent “suffered a non-life-threatening injury following a negligent discharge while handling a service weapon at the Philadelphia International Airport during a protective assignment,” the Secret Service said in a statement.

“There were no reported injuries to any other individuals and the special agent is being evaluated at an area hospital in stable condition,” the agency added.

The accidental shooting happened shortly before 9:00 am and away from Biden, according to NBC News.

“There was no impact to the protectee’s movement and they were not present at the time of the incident,” Secret Service spokesperson Nate Herring said. “There were no reported injuries to any other individuals and the special agent is being evaluated at an area hospital in stable condition.”

Many were quick to relish in the Secret Service agent’s misery, partly because the jokes practically wrote themselves — particularly the ones about Biden being a “doctor”:

The joke was based on Biden’s habit of propping up her status as a so-called “doctor.” But she’s not a medical doctor; she’s just someone with a fancy doctorate.

Critics also bashed the Secret Service, questioning their skills and experience.

“The people protecting the most powerful family in America are out here losing gunfights with their own holster,” one critic wrote.

“You can’t make this up. The irony of a protection detail becoming the threat itself,” another critic wrote.
