Sen. Chris Murphy suffers stroke in front of his son — doctors expect full recovery

U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., reportedly suffered a stroke while attending his son’s hockey game.

According to the lawmaker’s office, he was at the Saturday game when he began to experience numbness in his left arm. He was quickly rushed to a local hospital, later being transferred to Johns Hopkins in Maryland.

Allison Herwitt, Murphy’s chief of staff, says he is “awake and alert,” and said doctors anticipate he will make a complete recovery.

The kind of stroke he suffered was not publicly released, and the length of his hospital stay is currently unclear.

Murphy is up for reelection again in 2030, though it is also rumored that he is a potential contender for the 2028 presidential election. It is uncertain whether this medical episode will change that, or if he will continue with his work as normal once he is released.

“He was expected to appear in New Hampshire Sunday, where Rep. Chris Pappas (D-N.H.) is locked in a neck-and-neck race against former Republican Sen. John E. Sununu for the seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.),” the New York Post reported.
