Senator Chris Murphy was ripped over his memory bias as he deflected on a question about the latest leftward tilt of the Democratic Party.
The Connecticut Democrat expressed his convenient ignorance of controversial tweets by Democratic House nominee Darializa Avila Chevalier during an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday. When asked about the since-deleted social media posts, including one in which the Democratic Socialist endorsed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani called former President Joe Biden a “rapist,” Murphy predictably played dumb.
“If you’re saying the Democrat Party needs a bigger tent, does that include someone who called a former Democratic president of the United States a rapist?” host Ryan Nobles asked, referring to Chevalier, who won the Democratic primary election in New York’s 13th Congressional District.
“Yeah, well, I mean, I’m not super familiar with that race,” Murphy replied with a straight face.

“All I’m saying is that this party has to have a real contest of ideas and I just don’t think that our defense of incrementalism has worked,” Murphy added.
The senator found a way to dismiss the controversial posts while casting President Donald Trump as the “biggest threat” to America.
“Right now the biggest threat to this country are not a handful of House candidates in New York,” he said. “It is the president of the United States that is trying to destroy American democracy, and the Democratic Party, left, right and center, is united around the fact that we need to protect this nation from Donald Trump’s attacks on the rule of law.”
Murphy’s not-so-subtle leap over the real question Nobles posed was not missed by viewers who blasted him on X. This included even Democrat mouthpieces like MS NOW’s Joe Scarborough.
“This is what frightened Republicans do when confronted with horrid things Donald Trump has said. Now Democratic senators are saying this about a congressional candidate who accused Joe Biden of rape?? Stop. Now,” the former Republican and host of “Morning Joe” posted.
Senator, does this refresh your recollection? Be better than Trump’s cowards. https://t.co/fyBEZlRjqr

Scarborough’s wife and co-host, Mika Brzezinski, also blasted the senator for gaslighting the public.
“I think it’s pretty clear, some of these statements are complete deal breakers, and it’s not hard to say. It’s just not hard to say,” she said on Monday’s “Morning Joe,” likening Murphy’s response to Trump supporters.
“I like, we both love Chris Murphy, we think he’s a great guy and serves our country. But don’t gaslight people!” she said. “I mean, this story is out there.”
Murphy was lambasted by more X users for his selective amnesia.
The question wasn’t about what he was or was not familiar with.
The question was does his “big tent” include someone who called a “former Democratic President” a rapist.
He came nowhere near to actually answering the question.

Meet The Press puts the candidate’s own deleted posts on screen, and Chris Murphy suddenly claims he’s unfamiliar with the race. This is the same senator who lectures his party about embracing every faction, yet goes blank the moment accountability lands in his lap.
