Sen Rand Paul wants major change in Food Stamps rules: ‘Don’t subsidize sugary drinks with tax dollars!’

Senator Rand Paul is taking Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) seriously in a series of shared social media posts.

Taking a break from his usual exposure of government overreach and waste, Paul shared a study that exposes the dangers of consuming sugary drinks as well as his opposition to federally “subsidizing” the beverages.

Look:

“Make America Healthy Again – don’t subsidize sugary drinks with tax dollars! BYU study says drinking sugar may be worse than eating it,” he wrote.

In a separate post on his official government account, he boldly proclaimed that government assistance programs like food stamps should not cover “sugary drinks that are strongly associated with Type 2 diabetes.”

While many could argue that sugary drinks should be banned entirely for the health risk they pose, Paul’s small government approach to the problem would only take the option away from those receiving taxpayer-funded assistance.
