Senator Vindman? Trump impeachment ‘whistleblower’ eyes Florida Senate seat

An impeachment inciter is eyeing a new opportunity to serve the Democratic Party in the state where woke goes to die, and the laughter can’t be contained.

Years after being hailed as a “whistleblower” for his role as lead witness in the first impeachment of President Donald Trump over the GOP leader’s “perfect” phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, retired Army Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman is suggesting he has new political aspirations. Though reluctant to make himself a “sacrificial player,” the Ukrainian-born social media flamethrower is considering a Senate bid in Florida.

Speaking with CBS New Miami, Vindman said of the potential challenge to appointed incumbent Florida Sen. Ashley Moody (R), “I think that the Democrats need to win in some very, very difficult places in order to wrestle control back.”

“I’m not sure if Florida is the place to do that. It might be. My worldview is that Trump is going to hurt a lot of people, and this will be a referendum [on Trump] and there’ll be an opportunity for people power to manifest,” he went on concerning the 2026 election to finish out the term of now-Secretary of State Marco Rubio. “Folks will show up that stayed on the sidelines last time, or that got more than they bargained for with Donald Trump. So, I don’t think the state is too far gone by any means. I certainly don’t believe that. I just don’t know if I’m the right person to do that or if that’s the right role for me.”

Since making a name for himself among Trump Derangement Syndrome sufferers in 2019, Vindman has remained a mouthpiece on the left and has been labeled a “good little commie” for his trouble as he decried the free speech absolutism of Elon Musk and others. He’s also worked on the successful campaign of his twin brother, Eugene Vindman, who was elected to the House of Representatives for Virginia’s 7th Congressional District in November 2024.

Despite his contribution to the coordinated efforts of the left to “get Trump,” and much to the dismay of his wife, Rachel, Vindman was not included in the list of last-minute pardons offered by then-President Joe Biden. However, he has been included on a list of individuals for whom President Donald Trump has revoked security clearances in March, along with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former Vice President Kamala Harris, former President Joe Biden, and members of his family.

Whether still licking his wounds from that experience or weighing the possibility of other moves in the future, Vindman addressed his aversion to being a “sacrificial player. I’d want to do something that actually is meaningful because the costs are pretty high.”

“Costs meaning being away from my daughter, being able to provide for my family. So, I’d want to do something I think could achieve some results,” he went on.

Of course, the reality in Florida is that the dominance of registered Republicans has found analysts predicting it would be decades before Democrats could be competitive in the Sunshine State.

Moody put an exclamation point on that reality as the Republican Party of Florida announced that even Miami-Dade County had flipped red in registrations, “History in the making! In Florida, we’ve shown that conservative policies and real leadership will unleash prosperity and ensure safety. Thank you to all who made a RED Miami-Dade possible, and to all our new Republicans… welcome to the party!”

Addressing the possibility of Vindman challenging Moody, Florida GOP Chair Evan Power told CBS News, “Donald Trump won Florida by 13 points. The last thing our state wants is someone who was part of the obstruction of the first Trump Administration. Vindman should take his lies and his political opportunism elsewhere.”

Others simply laughed at the hypothetical campaign amid slams against his reputation, including accusations of treason.
